I have been to this temple a number of times since 1996 and have prayed in front of the Shiva Linga every time without thinking too much about the origin and significance of this temple. This time (September 2015) I was accompanied with a a guide named Dr Kanoje who not only explained the details of thuis temple but also told us about the origin of its name. It is called 'Gandheshwar Mahadev' because the Shiva Linga produces a pleasant fragrance every morning which a few lucky people witnes everyday even today. This was actulally a temple that was worshipped by the Tantriks in the ancient times and then it was converted to a temple for normal people after some Vastu corrections. The temple has some scripts written in ancient languge on its pillars which testify this. the view of Mahanadi from this temple is alos awesome. Interestingly this is the only Shiva Linga which is worshipped even today even when thousands of other Lindas found in Sirpur are not..

A very famous Shiva temple at the bank of Mahanadi river located in Sirpur behind Lakshamana temple. During monsoon the water floods the temple it seems and people throng this place during sivarathiri parv.

This is one of the largest temple in Sirpur and located near the bank of river Mahanadi. During monsoons the water comes inside the temple causing considerable damage. During Shivratri the temple is very crowded as this is one of the oldest temple
