Laxman temple
Oct 2016
Laxman temple is its own kind of only temple which is dedicated to lord Laxman. Temple is few steps from the heart of the city. It's the temple which is built by the king in the memory of his wife. It's a sign of love. Each brick is so designed that u can not find any joints in the temple. The actual original statue of the temple is in American museum. You can also go through the museum which is near by the temple. Lavish garden is also where children can play n enjoy.

A heritage temple revealing our rich ancient culture and nicely maintained
Dec 2016 • Family
This temple is built in 5 to 6th century by the king but today also it is in very good condition. CG govt. is really paying attention to add to its beauty. They have maintained a garden in front of the temple and it was looked after in a nice way.
the museum at the back side of the temple reveals the carving work and idols found in the recent excavation by the department of archaeology.
Very minimum fees were kept to enter the temple. You can do the photography without any restriction.
One should really visit place to see our rich culture

One Day Historical Tour Near Raipur
Dec 2016 • Family
It is best place to spend full day with family. Lakshman temple surroundings are well maintained which makes it a picnic spot( Beautiful garden). For food only option is road side Dhaba. But you have to order food before. No food at runtime.

Lovely Sirpur
Dec 2015 • Family
Sirpur is a historical town in Mahasamund district in the state of Chhattisgarh 78 km away from Raipur and 35 km from Mahasamund city on the banks of the river Mahanadi. The town of Sirpur (aka Shirpur) has been mentioned in ancient epigraphic records, dating back to the 5th to the 8th centuries A.D. The city was once the capital of the Sarbhapuriya and Somvanshi Kings of Dakshin (south) Kosala state. It was an important centre of Buddhist from the 6th the 10th century A.D. and was visited by Hieun Tsang, the 7th Century Chinese Pilgrimist and Scholar. The beauty of this magical place has beckoned the presence of His Holiness Dalai Lama too in March 2013.

It is believed that a devastating earthquake buried the ancient town under mud and debris in the 12th century.[4]

The 7th century Laxman Temple (dedicated to lord Vishnu) is considered as one of the finest brick temples of India with a stone doorframe.[5] First discovered in 1872 by Lord Cunningham, [3] the temple is famous for its interesting carvings. Recent excavations have uncovered 12 Buddh Viharas, 1 Jain Vihara, monolithic statues of Buddha and Mahavira, 22 Shiv temples and 5 Vishnu temples, an Ayurveda treatment centre, underground granary market and a sixth century ‘Ayurvedic snaan kund’ (ancient spa).

Other famous attractions of Sirpur are the Gandheshwar Temple and the Buddha Vihara.

Interesting for those interseted in history and heritage . A good guide from the tourist centre would further enhance the experience. You can stay at the tourism resort and order lunch there if plannins a day trip. The tourism resort looks decent. The Annual sirpur dance festival is held here in January.

Oct 2015
You have seen nothing if you have not visited Sirpur, one time capital city of Chhattisgarh. Now it's a small village where one after another ancient temples, pagodas and other buildings are gradually coming out in the excavation work being conducted by ASI.The 6th century, built in sun-dried bricks, Lakshman temple was discovered in 1954.

The temple itself is very old and the complex has large lawn and two museums which house many ancient artifacts. A visit here will take you back in time.

Very close to my Heart
Sep 2015 • Friends
I have visited Sirpur about 7-8 times in last 20 years. Although most of the archeological discoveries have come up in last 7-8 years, the Lakshman Temple is an attraction that has always been there in Sirpur. About 15-20 years back Sirpur was just a picin spot on the banks of Mahanadi for the people of Raipur. But even then everyone made a point to visit this temple before heading back to Raipur in the evening.
I went here latest on 24th
