Stunning photos lured us there. But, a pathetic attempt to turn a geological marvel into an attractive place to be in nature. The path is spoiled by more litter than we've seen in travel to a dozen countries, North America, Africa, Europe, Asia. Two trash cans along the way have no bottom, and obviously are not attended. There is a path to Tarey Bhir Resort, with a tattered sign showing attractions, and the place has been abandoned soon after its construction. The guard rail wasn't completed, leaving rebar sticking up-- a danger to someone who might trip and fall. And the walkway simply ends at an unimproved path, no signage. Not recommended. A sad blight upon nature.

Sikkim is known for its amazing views of Kanchanjungha, touris look up to see the spectacular snow facade of the third highest peak in the world. In Tarey Bhir people dont look up to see the snow peaks rather look down to see the Teesta River meandering down to the plains of Bengal.
We (my wife and 10 year old daughter) visited Tarey Bhir from Chalamthang Homestay. The trek was a bit long but we did it with several breaks on the way.

Visited more than 4 times. A bit different tourist spot in South Sikkim. The shape of this place reminds me a place similar to The Great Wall of China. View from the end point is awesome. A good stop-over place...

Beautiful, peaceful place. We went for rafting and from there we visited this place. Not too much crowd. Even our cab driver wondered how we knew this place. We can walk along the stairs and enjoy the beautiful view.

A very good attraction in South Sikkim but be prepared to be tested physically. The walk down the steps is a breeze but the return is steep and very exhausting. My wife counted 511 steps one-way ;)
The view from the end depends on the weather and we really couldn't see Darjeeling or Jalimpong because it was cloudy. We could barely make out the Teesta. Entrance fee is Rs. 20 although the lady was reluctant to issue tickets after taking the money from us. Toilets are available outside the main entry gate.
The road was in a terrible shape when we went and it took us nearly 1 hour each side. We were told that the roads were being re-laid because of the upcoming general elections. On our way back, we even had to wait for 45 mins because the road was blocked for construction.

Best of what Namchi has to offer .... the south Sikkim detour of half hour from the town opens vast verdant vistas at the border of West Bengal and Sikkim. Spend more time breathing in the scintillating freshness and soak in the glorious view of Darjeeling and Kalimpong together with the majestic Teesta river below. The walkable ridge on the high cliff is magnificent for the nature lovers .... the more religious touristy spots are the Sai Mandir and the Chaar Dhaam of Namchi.

Tare Bhir could be easily driven in around half an hour from Namchi town in south Sikkim. I would have regretted if I have not visited it during my last Namche visit. Tare Bhir is a ridge on a high cliff. Entire surrounding mountains, valleys and river can be seen from Tare Bhir. It is very enjoyable to walk down the stone paved steps further towards the edge of the cliff from where you can see the beautiful Kalimpong town on top of another mountain on the east side. The gorgeous Tistha river valley and the river itself. You can even see Darjeeling far away in another mountain on the west. The air is pure and cool in Tare Bhir, Everyone sits longer in the grass to enjoy the pure nature and its beauty in Tare Bhir.

A. Currently , drivers are not taking this route for travelling Melli-Namchi , due to road conditions .
B. Even before, and in the future , drivers won't tell you about the place as they waste time by stopping . You have to tell them !
