    Somnath temple visit
Temple is gigantic. Invaders tried to damage it. The sea is very turbulent. My TAXI cab owner driver Alpesh +91 74330 01378 was very nice - enjoyed. Use him if you land at Ahmedabad Rajkot or Jamnagar airport

    Mesmerizing
Very beautiful mandir, with amazing architecture and lovely area around the temple. Plus night lighting is mesmerizing. We visited for darshan ard 8.30 pm (darshan closes at 9.30 pm) - we completed the darshan in 20-25 mins. This is because the main crowd comes for aarti in the evening which ends by 7.30 pm so all crowd gets dispersed within an hour.

    Darshan at Somnath temple
We had darshan by turn. It was a Saturday & peak time of 7.15 pm. Hence heavy rush for darshan. It took me 45 minutes for darshan. I could see laser show for some time. Purchased Gangajal bottle for Rs.35 which can be poured near jyotirlinga and there is an arrangement that it goes upto Jyotirlinga.

    Divine experience
Somnath mahadev temple is one of the twelve jyotirlings. We visited Somnath from Dwarka. We stayed in Sarovar Portico hotel and it was very nice. Somnath temple was about 400 meters from parking. It was very very peaceful in the temple. it was crowded but not that much. The energy we felt there was just another level. You need to deposit your mobiles and bags outside the temple but it was very well maintained. There are separate queues for men and women for darshan. We went during evening aarti time and the experience was surreal.

    Breathtaking!
Breathtaking experience. Do not miss the sound and light show which is done with great precision. And the churma laddoo prasadam is excellent as well. Check out the Baan stambh near the beach. One tip will be to first buy the prasadam and the tickets before you go for darshan because the line gets pretty long after the Mangal Aarati which is at 7 PM before the show. Also do not miss the old temple outside that was built by AhilyaBai Holkar. No mobile and bags allowed, so make arrangement for them while you can.

    Heaven on Earth
One of the most magnificent temples of India, the Somnath temple stands tall and confident across the sea shore. Key pointers: 1. Mobile phones/handbags are not allowed. 2. You need to walk a considerable distance from the main gate so if you have a senior citizen with you, wait for the golf cart service at the entrance. 3. It has an evening laser light show depicting the history of the temple. It’s serene to sit there in the campus and wait for the show to begin. The temple is beautifully lit as the evening sets in, giving you a feeling of being in heaven. 4. They have robust arrangements to manage the crowd. Be patient you will get a good glimpse of the jyotirlinga, if you stick to the queue.

    Somnath Mahadev Mandir, Gujrat
The area and temple is amazing. I had been there earlier twice, but this time found that the complete process of darshan is more systematic. get scanned, deposit lugger etc, deposit your shoes / chappals . Frisking after that and then directly get into the darshan line. Max 45 mins. Plus once you are at door of temple ,you can see the deity. unlike other places where unless you reach exactly near the deity you cannot have darshan. that way it is very good. ladies and gents lines are separate and its good. these are twin parallel lines for darshan. only thing I did not like was the cleanliness of area outside the temple. it has slightly improved, but cannot really appreciate the improvement. Secondly, one must visit the old Somnath temple as well. it's just outside the boundary of this temple, separated by a small lane. worth visiting and all pooja etc can be performed there. both places - no tickets or VIP lines.

    mesmerizing trip
We arrived at the Somnath Temple around 6:30 PM. The security check and the formalities for electronics and luggage took about 15 minutes. Given that it was the off-season, the temple was less crowded than anticipated, and our darshan was completed within 15 minutes. As we emerged from the temple, the evening Aarti began. The sound of bells, damru, and other musical instruments filled the air with the devotional tune of "Om Jay Jagdish Hare." My heart felt an irresistible pull towards Lord Shiva. Compelled by the divine melody, I rushed back to witness the Aarti live. It was a profoundly beautiful moment; the music was so perfect it gave me goosebumps. After the Aarti, I stood at the exit gate, gazing at the flag fluttering high, almost as if it was suspended in time. I remained there for about 15 minutes, feeling like a statue, immersed in the sacred atmosphere until the Aarti concluded. A deep sense of accomplishment and fulfillment washed over me, and tears of joy began to roll down my cheeks. This is the profound greatness of Lord Shiva at Somnath. Visiting this Jyotirlinga is an experience not to be missed. Om Namah Shivaya!

Somnath is the main temple in 12 Jyotilinga. There is fantastic car parking facility some 300meter away from temple. They take Rs.50 per car, the entrance to parking is like toll gate.

One need to walk from parking till cloak room where you need to deposit all your mobiles, cameras, wallets, car keys, belts etc. (Suggest to keep all these things in car itself). From here there is separate queue for males and females where they do check you completely (for any mobiles, keys, wallets etc) and then send you inside. There is covered walkway which leads you to main temple. There is one more checking point where they do check you rigorously for any mobile, keys, wallets etc and then let you go in.

The darshan of somnath jyotirlinga happens peacefully inside as there is proper crowd management. The gents and ladies exits are opposite each other hence i saw lot of families searching there hubbies and spouses outside. To avoid it you can ask your spouses to keep standing outside the exit and you yourself can go and meet them.

There is prasad counter in temple complex where the ladoos tastes heavenly. The temple is nicely maintained from outside and have some beautiful carvings on them.

We head to Somnath temple, at early morning at the time of Aarti. It was just wonderful experience seeing Aarti, light and sound, hundreds of worshipers and sound of sea shore.. The temple has its own rich history. It was vanished and developed again many times. The current temple's architecture is so beautiful, that one can not uplift their eyes from it. Somnath Mahadev temple meant to be a holy place for Shiva worshipers.

It is a divine place and worth a visit for either religious or tourist leanings.
The new temple has marvellous architecture and surroundings. The Arti, light and sound show in the evening is worth a watch.
The real puja and Abhishek etc are conducted in the nearby old Somnath temple rebuilt by Ahalyabai Holkar.
One has to deposit cameras and other battery items before going inside the temple. No photography is allowed inside the campus.

This is a historic temple. The 1st jyotirlinga in the list of 12 Jyotirlingas. the temple is open throughout the day from 0600 to 2130 hrs. The pooja happens 3 times in a day. 0700, 1200 and 1900 Hrs.
There are well organised free kiosks for depositing your valuables. There is a separate kiosk for keeping your footwears.
Inside the temple, there are many outlets which offer different prasad at different rates.
In the evening there is a sound and light show at 2000 Hrs, which is a 1 Hour show. The tickets are available from 1830 Hrs. Each ticket is of Rs. 30/-
The temple is well maintained and very clean.
The temple, has many rest rooms run by the temple trust, which can be booked online or on the counter as per availability. Ample space is available for car parking near the temple.
The temple trust also runs a bus service at 0800 and 1500 Hrs, which takes the pilgrims to the other important temples around the area. The seats are limited, and are on first come first basis. There is no online booking, so it is advised to reach before time and reserve your seat.

We took this trip to coincide with the time of the sunset. It is possibly the best time to be there. The environs within the temple are cool by then. Spotlessly maintained, the temple itself is an architectural marvel. With the backdrop of the Arabian Sea, there is an ambience about the place that is redolent of bhakti. The Aarti that takes place after sunset is rhythmically evocative, and appeals to the inner souls. Unfortunately, we could not stay for the Son et Lumiere show.A must visit place. Please remember that all electronics, including smart watches and cameras are not permitted in the precincts.

I just did not realise how beautiful this mandir would be until I actually saw it!
The entrance arched-gate is made of pure gold-leaf
The architecture is stunning.
There’s a Light & Sound show at night, with the voice of Amitabh Bachan narrating the history of the temple. It was magical.
The old mandir contains one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlinga, where the most sacred Puja is done on the shilling. A very spiritual experience!

WOW! What a temple. Magnificent and astounding. When we visited the crowd was very less and a very peaceful darshan of Mahadev. This is one of the temples you should see in your lifetime. Very neatly maintained. Cameras, mobiles are not allowed inside the temple complex.

Somnath Temple, housing one of Hinduism's revered 12 Jyotirlingas, left me awestruck. This resilient shrine has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, notably 17 times by Mughal emperors, yet its spiritual essence remains unbroken. I explored both the ancient, humble original temple and its grand, recently-built counterpart, designed to accommodate large crowds. Witnessing the sunrise, I performed a poignant Rudra Puja with my family, guided by a trusted pandit. For a seamless experience, I opted for the VIP car service (₹100/person), which dropped me at the main temple's doorstep. Note: phones are not allowed inside, so I couldn't capture the stunning interior. The nighttime laser show was mesmerizing. With numerous hotels nearby, I chose a modest one, given my daytime explorations. Overall, Somnath Temple's blend of history, spirituality, and natural beauty made for an unforgettable experience.

Being the number one of 12 jyothirlinga, somnath Lord shiva is dedicated to moon. No temple historically has been looted (17 ) times more than somnath, just shows how rich this shrine was. Built and rebuilt several times through ages, the current form of chalukya style was done under sardar patel. Being located at sea side, beauty of temple is unparallel. A sound and light show organised in evening at rear side portraits erstwhile glory. A pilgrimage for all, the temple is a must visit.
Ample facilities, great upkeep and huge crowd make it a shrine for all.
No photography allowed. Don't miss the prasaad at offer.
