About King Crab Safari by Snowhotel Kirkenes
he red King Crab is not only the biggest, but also the most delicious shellfish you will ever have the chance of tasting. On this exclusive king crab fishing excursion in Kirkenes, we will take you out on the fjord to find the great beast and you will see how we catch, prepare and cook it. Depending on the season, we'll drive either by snowmobile and sled out on the fjord ice or by RIB boat on the Varangerfjord where you can help pull up the crab pods. The journey will culminate in a warm farmhouse restaurant by the fjord where we'll serve the crab the northern Norwegian way – fresh, steamed and irresistible! All our tours include warm outfits, mittens, balaklava and shoes.

Michael is a fatastic host and was genuinely welcoming and engaging. It was not just a crab fishing trip, but an interesting history excursion, with lots of insights of the region's history and culture, as well as a very fun RIB ride. The crabs were awesome too.

Excellent opportunity to experience something different. Warm outfits supplied, boat trip fun, caught crabs in baskets then cooked and ate them in a quaint shore side hut. Dirk, our captain was fantastic with history of the area and how the crabs arrived in Norwegian waters in the 1960/70’s. Highly recommend.

We did the King Crab tour led by Dirk - it definitely did not disappoint! Dirk showed us WW2 bunkers and gave us an insight into what life is like in Kirkenes. He was incredibly knowledgable about the crabs (and just about everything else), very friendly and with an infectious can-do attitude. He cooked the king crab to perfection in the cowboy kitchen and we ate until our stomaches burst. A great afternoon, and definitely very memorable.
