The main building of the museum is a school house built in the Swedish mansion style from 1916. The building contains the Skelleftea museum, Skelleftea Art gallery, museum Anna Nordlander Art Gallery plus the Meijer collection. Inside there is also a really nice coffee shop. The museum is free but I do suggest if you do not read Swedish hire the audio guide as there is very little written in anything other than Swedish. Well worth the visit.

The museum is a bit off the city center but should in any cases be visited. The museum, hosted in the XIXth century Nordanaa center presents the city history thoroughly and offers plenty of nice artifacts as well as reconstructions of various buildings. The archaeological exhibition is quite dates (just by looking at the 25 years old computers they have there) but it is otherwise very well done, from the Stone Age to the present day.

Around the center are also a modern art gallery where some Saami art was exposed when I visited,a cafe/souvenir shop and a beautiful garden with many old buildings left intact.

I would say that visiting the museum is an absolute must do if you ever come by Skellefteaa!

Visited the current exhibit about wood and its impact on the Skellefteå area. Very nice but very sad the rest of the museum was closed without any information about when it will reopen its permanent parts.

Free admission!!
And they show a huge variety of peoples living and history of this town.
Ups and downs in the community and economy.
Very nice ladies at the entrance desk, who are most helpful.

I could highly recommend a visit to this museum!!

Very few of the museum exhibits available during reconstruction. In addition to this, some doors were locked to what the website should be open, so not much research remains.
Had to comfort me with the open cafe

Interesting although a bit old main exhibition about the region and the city, a temporary one about bicycles, not very exciting, although with some funny stories. A small temporary exhibition of cute gingerbread houses too. Worth a visit, the Nordanå park around it as well. And of course free of charge.

Have been to the museum many times and always enjoy it. Some wonderful exhibitions that change, and a fantastic range of fixed exhibits that show aspects of life in northern Sweden. A delightful cafe to relax in and fantastic toilets! Always a joy. Thank you Neil and Julia Crighton
