About
No.Holes: 18 PAR: 72 Length: 6353 m Slope Rating: 129 Architect: Frank Pennink Location: Vilamoura, Algarve The second golf course to call Vilamoura home, Pinhal Golf Course was opened for play in 1976 and owes its personality to both the original designer Frank Pennink, who also turned his hand to The Old Course Golf Club nearby, and Robert Trent Jones Sr., who made a number of significant refinements in 1985. Traversing undulating parkland, many fairways are lined by pine trees. However, perhaps an even more significant challenge is presented by the Umbrella and Atlantic pines which present themselves on fairways and at times on the approach into greens. Length has recently been added on a number of holes, which ensure the test originally envisioned by Pennink is maintained. At a substantial 6,353 metres from the white tee markers, and with a par of 72.

Dom Pedro proves again that it has the worst, money grubbing, BS scam management in Europe. Using COVID as an excuse to force patrons to pay rental on their trolleys instead of using their own is so absurd it is moronic. The other option is to pay full pop for a buggy, which by their rules you can only use individually unless you are a couple. This obvious cash gouge is so ridiculous it is pathetic but fits right in with recent other new management and operating restricitions and policies. Don't lie to us and use COVID to gouge and scam. Say it like it is and increase your rates but don't insult the intelligence of the public that pays. Its an embarrassment to the management capabilities of the Dom Pedro group that some bean counter has the audacity to adopt idiotic methods with sham explanations to draw an extra couple euros out of every customers pocket and think they have pulled one over on the public. Eventually this management will do enough damage to customer relations trying to graft every possible cent from its customers that it will not be a viable option. Further to this, the staffing on the particular day I went was pathetic. One woman that appeared to be lost and overwhelmed at the check-in and literally 12 people lined up out the door of the pro shop waiting to be served. Showing up 40 minutes before tee time and spent that whole time standing in a line in the pro shop and literally no time to take a couple putts or warm up on the range. Another well thought out cost effective measure by this management group.

This course is becoming absolutely unacceptable. The prices for almost little over half a basket of range balls
has been increased from € 5,- per basket on 31st August to € 7,- on 1st September, an increase of 20%.
The management is literally chasing out the golfers out of Dom Pedro Golf Courses.I have been residence of Vilamoura since 23 years and I must say that many of the local resident golfers have moved out from Vilamoura Dom Pedro Golf to other clubs because of the poor attitude of Dom Pedro Management.
When we bought the properties in Vilamoura years back, lot was promised by Lusotour(then Managing the Golf Courses) and they kept their promises.Nothing has been done ever since Dom Pedro Group took over the management accept of thinking of their own profitability.
If this goes on (higher Green Fees and poor performance) , most of the golfers will preferably avoid Dom Pedro Golf Courses and either move to other courses or rather go to other countries offering better price performance.
Thanks!

We used the Dom Pedro Pinhal golf course) today paid my green fees and arrived at the 1st tee with my clubs on my push trolley. The starter told me I could not use my own personal push trolley and I was forced to rent a ride on buggy. This is Dom Pedro group trying to make extra money out of golfers during Covid 19. This is wrong and using my own equipment is much safer and in line with Covid 19 recommendation rather than force golfers to use rental equipment. This is the only hotel/golf chain in the Algarve that forces golfers to rent equipment where they previously pre-Covid 19 didn't. There are more ethical golf clubs out there. I will never play on a Dom Pedro course again after their treatment of golfers post Covid 19. I feel sorry for the staff who have to enforce the company policy as it is clear they are very uncomfortable with how their company is treating and ripping off golfers. If you are looking at booking a golf holiday think twice before booking a Dom Pedro Hotel package. After checking I have found out that Dom Pedro Old Course also force golfers to rent their equipment.

When we arrived you could tell the course and clubhouse needed some work.
Check-in was great, pro shop staff were friendly and helpful, checkin was quick and we were off to warm up for our round
Easter deal = 82€ per person + 25€ for shared cart
7€ per bucket
Driving range was just ok
Putting green by clubhouse was in great condition
Chipping zone by 10th tee was in great condition
Cart pickup was quick and simple, friendly staff, carts were in decent condition.
Starter was also friendly and helpful
They had some crossover thing going on today, tee times off of 1 and off of ten
It was a mess, tons of people on the course.
We started on 10th
Holes are positioned quite close to one another.
The upkeep of this course is unfortunately lacking. Tee boxes and fairways quite rough.
Cart paths really bumpy and could use some work. Signage run down.
Lots of trees, you better be hitting super straight off the tee or this course will wear you down.
Some of the holes are quite gimmicky, pay close attention to your map, some 90 deg dog legs.
A few holes with blind shots with no marker out in fairway
Greens were in GREAT shape, no complaints here, fast and true
So far this is the worse course we’ve played in the area. I would not play again or recommend this course…unless there is a deal for 40-50€ per perso.
Everyone in our foursome disliked their experience, wouldn’t play here again and wouldn’t recommend this course.

We landed at 07:30 for a tee at 08:06, we paid €280 including buggy. I asked for a token for the range “sorry Wednesday is maintenance day & it doesn’t open until 09:00” for €280 I’d expect the range to be fully operational for the early starters. We were a 2 ball so they started us on the 10th tee. We were due to be back for the first at 10:15. We arrived back at 09:40, we had a 35 min wait. In that time frame there was numerous 4 balls walked past us pulling trolleys and there was nobody at the starter hut to speak to. We then teed of at 10:15 and we could see the 4 ball ahead of the 4 ball in front of us. We played the first and it was stomach wrenching to watch it. We turned and went in. It’s just another example of get as many groups as you can on the course no matter what. Greed is probably the proper word to describe it. Won’t be back ever again, one final comment is that if you’re a mid to low handicapper do not play this course.

I played 4 Dom Pedro courses in Vilamoura and this was my favourite. It’s a tricky layout with so many trees but your ball is almost always findable underneath in the pine straw. Looking through some of the reviews I can see people complaining about pace of play but this is rarely the fault of the course. We had 12 Norwegians in front of us that held us up a bit but that was just down to their skill level, they played as quick as they could, raked the bunkers properly etc, the weather was perfect so who cares!
Greens were a nice pace, course was in good condition, staff were lovely and I had a great day. Where possible the starter will add singles (like me) into another group when the course is busy. Mornings are quite full so if you want to play on your own you will be better playing later in the day. It’s worth mentioning that while the round is expensive there is generally a free pickup from local hotels if arranged the day before.
I will be back to this course!

The most unconsiderate business in Vilamoura.
We are staying at Lago do Golfe, an apartments complex next to the Pinhal golf course. It's the last week of July 2024 and the golf club has been cutting and shredding tree branches for 12 hours a day, for the past 5 days, by the side of the apartments swimming pool area. This is a routine maintenance work to be done on quiet winter months, not on peak season. Loads of families and holiday makers in the apartments complex had to suffer relentless machinery noise. We've contacted the golf course by email, through our reception, but had no reply. They start the machine work at 6am and stop at 6pm. No consideration whatsoever for people who have travelled to enjoy some holiday time.
I will never use this golf course.

We just visited Dom Pedro Pinhal last week and can honestly say it was the best of the 3 courses we played. The course was in fantastic condition from tee to green. Pace of play was very good even though the course was chocka block! The whole experience was 1st class from start to finish. The staff were helpful throughout and nothing was too much trouble for them. The venue was very busy and at time we struggled to find room on the driving range to hit balls. With a little patience this was quickly resolved and we managed to get our practice session complete before heading to the tee. Unfortunately we were on a later tee time but still managed to complete in just over 4hrs.
Yes some of the tees were tired looking but these areas had all been dressed ready for the upcoming busy season. If we go back anytime soon then we will definitely make Pinhal one of our must play courses.

I have been visiting and playing the courses in Vilamoura annually for more than 25 years. Sadly this will probably be my last time.
I understand that costs and prices rise but in the case of Dom Pedro these increases are not being put back into the product - the golf courses. Played Pinhal recently and the whole experience was average. Lacklustre check in, disinterested starter, tees that are overused and worn out, fairways with significant sanding to repair damage and course marshalls who simply flew past with no interaction or acknowledgement. To cap it off golf carts are 55 euros and for that there were no tees in the cart, no sand in the cart, no ice in the ice box and a GPS system that they have not mapped the course for and is therefore inoperative.
When I pointed out that their fees are similar to their local competitors but that their product and services were not I was told that they are a different company. I know that and I also know I have a choice where I spend my money.

We went to the course in person to check out the course itself and associated facilities with a view to arranging a corporate golf trip. Staff we spoke to were totally disinterested. They said that one of us could look at one or two holes and that is all. It wasn’t at all busy and there were very few people on the course. Buggy park was full. Very disappointing experience and definitely wouldn’t recommend on the basis of the customer service we experienced. With all of the courses in the area I’m sure there will be much better options elsewhere but we will see.

Hi everyone, we are heading over in May to play Millenium/Laguna/Old Course and Pinhal. I know buggies cost €45 each so with us playing all those courses, just trying to figure out if any of them actually require a buggy or can be walked with a trolley? Thanks
Written December 6, 2019
Some good answers already! May has been quite cool for the last couple of years so you probably won’t need to worry too much about carrying your bag / using a trolley to be honest. It can get very busy esp on Pinhal and those with buggies get a bit irritated by those carrying bags so be prepared to allow players to pass. Best bet is to try and get a deal done before you fly out for all 4 rounds ...

I'm looking for a price on green fees for mid Septemper please ,emailed the dom pedro site but got no answer
Written August 13, 2019
The Dom pedro is €60 of season and €90 during golf season.
I am not sure when the change takes place. Its better to book a package with them. I would assume it goes up on the 1st of September.
Written August 14, 2019
What happens if you are a single golfer, will they add you to a group or try to book in with other single golfers?
Written June 14, 2019
As the course is usually busy, there is often a marshal on the first tee and they do ensure that you only go out on your booked slot. The pro shop are however really helpful and speak good English so I am sure if you explain your preference they will try and accommodate you.
Written June 15, 2019
Do you require golf insurance for these courses?
Written April 3, 2019
The course do not ask but for peace of mind we carry annual golf cover with a personal liability extension as accidents do happen.
Written April 4, 2019
Do you have to pre-book buggies or is it first come first served on the day?
Written March 26, 2019
They have hundreds, it's very unlikely they won't have one if you just rock up.
Written March 26, 2019
Can you play as a 2 ball or were you paired up to make a 4? Hoping to play 1st week December
Written November 12, 2017
It depends on how they book you on. We played 3 times and one was just the two of us. Probably better to start really early or later on.
Written November 13, 2017
Hi
Do we need buggies, are they allowed on the fairways and do they have GPS?
Thanks
Lawrence

in summer better with and are allowed on fairway. Can't remember bout GPS and u could walk it but summer would be a training session not a golf round
Written June 27, 2017
What is the range of green fees for the three courses on this area?
Written November 11, 2016
We paid and average of €70 per round. We booked the three courses in one go so that might have made it a bit cheaper. This time of year is high season,as it is cooler, and quite busy. It's worth it though.
Written November 23, 2016
Can we hire an electric trolley or is a buggy the only option
