While its many water hazards and few trees set it apart, it truly finds its individuality in the number of holes which convey characteristics of a traditional links layout. American golf course architect Joseph Lee was given the responsibility for setting out the Laguna Golf Course over low-lying coastal terrain, and in this setting was able to establish 18 holes which offer a wide variety of playing conditions. The course has been continually improved since the first ball was struck in 1990, although it retains all of the appeal of a modern test of golf, through which the strategic positioning of bunkers and a number of water obstacles demand accuracy of play.

Overall this felt like a very 'average' experience. The course has enough interest and variety, and a decent amount of water (but not an excessive amount). However, it didn't excite or stand out in any way, and it wasn't in great condition. Not awful, but not good enough at these prices. The tees were very tired and uneven. Greens were very sparsely-grassed with a brown appearance and also several types of grass on some, resulting in tufts of grass of differing lengths. In summary, an 'ok' but not a special course.

Excellent Golfing Day
Our 1st of 4 Rounds this week & after reading the recent January poor review we were all tad apprehensive but REALLY IMPRESSED! Course was in great condition. Fairways smooth, rough not too penal & Greens receptive & true. Directions to next holes clear & despite being busy our 4 ball was not held up & we went round in 4 hrs

I really liked this course. There is plenty of water but it's very playable. Some of the holes are shapped lovely and real risk and reward from tee. The fairways and greens could do with a bit of water and care. The clubhouse is lovely and staff friendly

This company took my booking in January, paid in full for an end of May trip to La Cala ! They wouldn’t take calls u till the week before the trip, I asked for a refund and I am still waiting !

Trying to get hold of anyone is near impossible, I then had a call back after posting on Trustpilot what happened !

The woman that called said “take the reviews down and we’ll refund your MJs way by the 19th” still waiting ...

But shouldn’t we be worried about this company? Numerous people are outstanding money and they look like they’re being ignored too if you read Trustpilot !

These companies do not pay until after the event so giving the excuse of trying to have money returned from the supplier (hotels etc) doesn’t wash ....

Do not pay any money to this firm as you’re likely to be reading about them shortly, another travel firm gone to the wall !

Poor greens and course conditions

Greens are dreadful, some bare and far too quick others bumpy and inconsistent. Course presentation in general is poor with weeds rather than grass in rough areas and so does not match the green fee.
Commented on this to staff who said we were not alone in these findings but they could only suggest we contact the Director of Golf. We did and he has not replied.
We are unlikely to return and instead will spend a little more and go to Quinta do Lago.

Our group consisted of 2 Professionals and 4 amateurs who paid €110 for the round. Having never played the course before we were extremely impressed with the practice putting green which was immaculate. When we arrived at the first green it resembled a dark brown cricket wicket and this was consistent throughout. It baffled me because all the greens on the millennium which are on the same piece of land were immaculate. The course layout was superb but the greens let the course down badly. 2 star rating because the rest of the course was good and the sun was shining all day.

Great for golfing in February

First time playing golf abroad and I'd thoroughly recommend booking with Golf Breaks and Dom Pedro Marina in Portugal. Staff were so welcoming and helpful. Everything was super easy from transfers to the golf courses and everything is set up for golfers. Courses were tricky on the greens but everything is so efficient and buggies accessible it couldn't have been a better experience .

Very Good Golf course with challenging holes

This golf course was in excellent condition. fairways were very good. The greens were very fast and trickey. Every hole was different and challenging. There is a lot of water and this made you think your way around the course.Will play it again.

Don't waste your money

Group of 12 played Laguna on Fri 17th Mar 23. The standard of the greens and general upkeep of the course were awful, basically hard pan with dead grass on top. We played Millennium the day before and the greens and general upkeep of the course were excellent, strange considering the two courses are on the same land. Would not recommend Laguna.

Wish the customer service was as good as the course !

Having booked our trip to Vilamoura and been looking forward to some great golf, we arrived on Monday 20th March ,checked in to our hotel and straight away booked the transfer to the course. We had a Tee time 1306 , unfortunately beyond our control it was late arriving so we got to the Laguna clubhouse at our Tee time slot .
We checked in with the most rudest person on the desk, no welcome to the Algarve or Laguna course...just " YOUR LATE "..THE COURSE IS FULL NOW "...we explained the transfer was late. Just gave us a terrible look and then gave us a new Tee time 45 mins later.!
We asked the price for 5 pull trollies only yet again she said come on HURRY UP !!..and then tried to CON us out of 10 euros...WHAT A GREAT START !
To the golf course...yes it was very busy but only held up a few times, was in good condition, some great holes with lots of bunkers and water and in a beautiful location.
Please don't let this review stop you from playing Laguna...just be WARNED OF VERY RUDE PEOPLE IN THE PRO SHOP !

If you're like me who hits the ball miles but never straight then take a snorkel, diving gear and bucket & spade because there's a lot of water and sand. For my game this course is a no-no and waste of time and money.
