Maybe we experienced this on a bad day, but the beach was dirty, covered in litter and the water in the lake is unclean. While I was paddling with my daughter a full turd cruised right past us, and later we also watched a woman washing out her toddler's turd-covered reusable nappy in the lake. It was also very busy and there were large queues of cars in the car park, so we decided to park in a residential street just up the hill.
In fairness, the lake and beach is lovely to look at from a distance but I wouldn't bother spending the time trying to park and find a spot on the sand. We ditched after about half an hour and went to the stunning Praia do Meco about 10 minutes away instead.

The water and beaches are covered in sewage and toilet paper. It smells awful, surely a health Hazzard.
This beach is not safe for people and I was shocked to see so many swimming among the toilet paper.
There are also no toilets so you can imagine where all these people are going!

This is a beautiful beach that not many tourists know of -- the only reason we knew about it was because of relatives. We stopped at the beach on the way to have dinner with them and were enthralled to watch several swimmers get carrried from the lagoon to the ocean by the current. It looked like a ride you'd pay admission for at Disneyland, lol. There are cliffs and a tree forest further down the beach. This place must be packed with locals in the summer.

While the ocean beach is beautiful, the lake is disgusting. Why on earth this is enclosed is beyond me. Smells like the sewer and the water is questionable. Stick to the ocean.

So Portugal is a hot spot for surf. If you want to bath without breaking your arm in a wave try this place which has water protected from the waves. The restaurants there are also excellent

We were staying in a lovely villa nearby and took the road Av do Alcaide straight to the lake which also had the campsite on the right. The lake was lovely and we saw a number of fish swimming along its shore and families were searching for seafood to put on their bbqs which were set up around the shaded area of the woodland. This part did not have toilet facilities and was not clean in places, however from this position you could clearly see a beach area further round that was more populated and we would think this is where the positive reviews have been made from.

Having travelled from the UK, we were spoilt by the wonderful beaches in Sesimbra. Along its stretch it was clean and with plenty of space to spend time as a family.

This place offers all kinds of beaches: nice white ocean beach, clean lake beach, less sand more... green lake side... dunes to slide off... and, for whom adores all sides of nature: the seagulls' "necessities" area 😉. Most people flock to the beach between the ocean and the lake, closest to some facilities, but if you prefer some more privacy... have a nice walk along the lake and install yourself on a nice and quiet spot. Walking along the lake side you can see fish and other creatures moving in the water. People also do stand up paddle and kayak on the lake.

Beautiful place for a day out while visiting the area. The tie comes in and offers a beautiful spot to watch when the sea meets the lagoa. Kite surfing and windsurf going on, while you can just sit back and relax.

The lagoon is the perfect place to relax in a beach environment but without waves, so safe with young children or fun to relax in when older.
The lagoon is tidal so the water levels are pretty low when tide out and size of lagoon is double when tide in. You can paddle in inches of water or swim depending which part you go in. Water sports are also available.
