We visited Freriks petting zoo & garden when we spent a few days with friends that live near Winterswijk in Holland.
As our 16 month old son is running around a lot and wants to explore just about everything this place was perfect. One of our friends is a garden and flower enthusiast so this trip suited her too.
As we entered the area we saw this beautiful house that used to be a museum and next to it and behind it you find a really nice garden where you can nip some fresh herbs for your soup (yes, really) and to amuse the little ones there's paths in between the trees and bushes where they've placed garden gnomes and chubby toadstools. Very kitsch. Holland in a nutshell.

Next to the garden there's a large barn that's been converted into a cafe and next to that there's another barn for animals. There's pastures you can go into to pet the goats, lambs and chickens (the goats sure liked their cuddles) and there's also a play park for the kids inside that pasture. There's a separate pasture for the donkies and another for the cows.
The pigs and the guinea pigs live inside the barn. There's cages where the bunnies lives, you can open them and pet the bunnies, they were very friendly. There's also cages with exotic colorful birds.
If you want to know how it feels to milk a cow you can try this on one made out of chipboard with rubber teats, you fill it with water and off you go.

The park is very clean, the animals are well cared for and their cages/cubicles were well maintained and didn't stink. You can tell that the animals are happy here because they were all very friendly and alert.

I would encourage all visitors to donate whatever they feel like to Rosa, a piggybank made out of an old milk tin can that's painted pink, you'll find her at the entrance to the petting zoo.

Opening hours, as I understood it, are,
Monday - Friday from 09:00 to 17:00. Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00.

Dogs are not allowed.

Entry by donation this small, but well maintained and set out farm is a delightful place to stroll around for half an hour. Coffee and tea is also available. Deers, small ponies, pigs, chickens and lyrebirds are all on show.
