“Beautiful Building”

The name says it all. Stadskasteel ( City Castle), is located in the city (town) Zaltbommel. It's a beautiful building. We saw it on our way to the church. Took some pictures and left.

“Maarten van Rossum's house”

The City Castle (Stadskasteel) is named after a local general, Maarten van Rossum, who had it built around 1535. Maarten van Rossum played an important role in the 80-year war between the Dutch and the Spaniards, and the museum gives a good overview on this period. The collection of the museum is quite heterogenous: next to a collection of Jugendstil furniture, the upper floor is dedicated to the locally born Dutch designer Fiep Westendorp, famous for her "Jip & Janneke" drawings.
