About

The trip here was the highlight of my holiday as it was so interesting to see up inside a real working windmill. The guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. There's nothing set up for tourists - this is the real thing. There are three lots of long steep wooden steps to climb up (kind of like a ladder), so it's not suitable if you can't climb stairs. I really enjoyed my visit here and would recommend it if you're in the area.

Though the location of the windmill is high above the center of old Woerden, you can't see the lower part of the mill as it's surrounded by trees. You will see it better from a distance. Due to the covid-19, we could not climb the windmill. The shop was open so we bought a carton of flour. We will be back someday. Paid parking on the street.

Owner was very nice and it was great to go up into a working windmill. The views from up high are amazing, as well. Loved the steep laddres going up and down. Different "feel" than going to some of the more popular windmill locations around the Netherlands.

Lovely to see inside a windmill and we were given lots of information about how to make the flour. The stairs are steep but not difficult to climb if you hold on to the rope! We even bought some pancake, cake and plain flour to try! Not at all ‘touristy’. Well worth a visit. Only open two days a week though.

The windmill is beautiful and well kept, the children loved the experience of climbing up. The owner was lovely and explained the history of woerden, the importance of the mill and its location as well as how flour was ground and made. It was lovely to see the locals coming to purchase their freshly ground flour. Excellent experience.

This is easily the best windmill ‘experience’ in Netherlands. A working flour-mill with pretty much everything as it was on design (albeit a few modern improvements) that you can visit and see all the inner workings - for FREE.

Make sure you wait around for the wind to see it all spin into gear tho as it’s absolutely superb.

But - do buy something to help them keep this historic landmark open and free. I don’t even cook but asked for a small bag of flour to take with me as a souvenir and they were happy to oblige.

Great place to visit in Woerden! The windmill is beautiful and the people were friendly and very informative. We were told all about the windmill in English and even some French.

Nice view of the town from the top.

The stairs are typically Dutch = very steep.

You can buy pancakemix, appeltaartmix etc.
