We had a free day and were glad to visit the castle ruins and read of its history. On a beautiful sunny day, we toured round the castle ruins and a couple of times sat down to admire the surrounding views. This is the only...More

The castle is nice and all, but the caves are absolutely a "must see". The tour guides will explain all sort of things about witchcraft that you didn't know come from the Netherlands

We visited the caves first. When we bought tickets we were informed that the tour would be in Dutch but we were given a sheet of paper in English explaining what we would be seeing. It is a good idea to read this first as...More

The caves at Valkenburg and a wonder to behold. Our tour guide told us that much of the art work is done during the winter months when temperatures inside are warmer than those outside which are a constant 11 degrees. Really worth a visit

Nice 30 minute walk. Fun to do with the children, for them there is a small quest. You can also visit the "fluweelgrot". (We didn't do that.) Afterwards you can have a tea or coffee in the restaurant.

Although the castle was slighted (ruined) by our own king William III (before he was our king) there is more than enough left to visualise the castle in its heyday. The various parts of the ruins are labelled in English as well as Dutch and...More

A young enthousiastic guide, with a lot of informatie. Even with a wheelchair you can do the tour. The tour was in Dutch. The ruïne has pamflets in english and Dutch. It was less interesting than we thought. But even though it was enormous.

The guided tour of the caves was amazing! The guide spoke in Dutch, of course, but we had been provided with an English language fact sheet before the tour and he kept checking with us to see if we understood or had questions. Lots of...More

I have been travelling to the Netherlands for almost 10 years and one place you have to visit is Valkenburg, The Castle Ruins and the history with a great view.

I have been to both, and while both are excellent, Cologne has more appeal I think because it is held next to the cathedral. I also don't recall having Glu Wine at the Dutch Market. I have not used either coach line.
