This place is fun. Great place to eat, drink and people watch, surrounded by lovely buildings. We had breakfast and pre-dinner drinks there every day.

A very typical plaza de España. Busy with lots of people.... Many bars and restaurants. A bit seedy and nothing really to see...

I found the main square rather messy, a mixture of about all and everything, with no specific highlight worth to mention. but as it is the central square, you will anyway pass by here and can make your own picture of it.

If you are walking through the old center of Mérida, especially if you cross the Roman bridge, coming from the west, you can't help missing this square. It is not grandiose like others farther to the north in Castilla-Leon, but this is Extremadura, a much...More

The fact that this quiet corner of Mérida, Spain is called Plaza de Espanha with the Portuguese spelling of Spain (which should be España) struck us as quite significant. In fact, the local people of Extremadura tend to look to Portugal with much affection and...More

The Plaza España is in the city centre, with the town hall on one edge, the Merida Palace hotel and a few bars and restaurants. The centre of the square is under renovation currently to replace the four historic kiosks. The square is beautiful, the...More
