Good place to visit and we were delighted to find that we did not have to pay since it was free entry on a Monday morning. Excellent views of Jerez if you climb up on the ramparts. Well worth a visit.

Just €2 extra for this guided part of the Alcázar and restricted to 15 visitors at a time. An all encompassing view of Jerez from the Alcázar to the vine clad hills beyond. They also showed how artists from Europe used a similar apparatus to create paintings (see David Hockney's exposé). Very worthwhile.

We waited for the tour in English. Not knowing what to expect, we were taken up the tower into a darkened room. We were joined by a small group. The presenter was very good holding your attention at all times

If you make a trip to Jerez definitely visit the dark chamber. It's worth the trip and a great experience. Jerez is not very big but there is a lot to see between the dark chamber, the Alcazar and the bodegas.

We paid an extra 2 € without knowing what to expect.. What a surprise to see the surrounding city via a 'hidden camera' with a fun guide who also knew how to use the projection technology.

We wanted to visit the camera obscura. Normal entrance is €5,00 and with camera obscura €7,00. Unfortunately it was closed...

If you have never been to a camera obscura or don't know what one is, visit this one. A camera obscura is a darkened room where a real-time image of the world outside is projected onto a white dish by an operator. Worldwide there are not many of this Victorian invention.

The camera obscura in Jerez De La Frontera is part of the Alcazar. There is a separate admission charge to the camera obscura from the Alcazar although they share the same entrance off the street.

Note: There is another camera obscura nearby hidden away in the narrow streets of the old part of Cadiz,

We arrived a little too close to the closing time to really enjoy all the Alcazar has to offer. Very friendly staff who were patient enough waiting for us to leave! the Camera oscura was well worth the extra cost and the young man that presented it had so much knowledge and information, plus his English was excellent too!

The alcazar is interesting and the gardens are nice to walk through. One of the towers seems to be closed for renovations. Olive oil press is interesting as are the well preserved Arab baths. Definitely pay the extra few euros for the camera obscura really cool view of the city with excellent commentary in English from a very friendly guide. Highly recommended thing to do in Jerez.
