Montibelli is a great birding spot in the dry tropical forest. Fairly easy roads and trails meander around shade grown coffee fields, edged by forest, offering good visibility of multiple habitats. Eduardo is a talented guide with a keen eye.

The staff are friendly. The accommodations are rustic, but comfortable. The coffee is great. The food is good, and we ate everything offered at our meals (without any issues).

Some highlights: Northern Potoo, Ferr. Pygmy Owl, Turq. br. Motmot, Collared Aracari, several Trogons, and a variety of Hummingbirds, Flycatchers, and Warblers. 70+ species over a few relaxed paced days.

Take in the Chocoyero Reserve while you're here. It's just down the road (thought it is a bumpy and slow road...).

The staff on site are very helpful, and know a ton about the local flora and fauna. We saw some nifty birds, and got to walk along the coffee and dragonfruit fields. The view at the top of the trail is well worth the hike. They also offer a relaxing beverage at the end. We made it back just in time before a huge rainstorm came through. It was awesome being able to enjoy lemonade and coffee on their patio, watching the storm blow through the rainforest.

The chorus of praise from previous reviewers is certainly deserved. Our simple accomodation was comfortable, the meals delicous and varied., and we could not fault the efforts of our young guide Eduardo. His super-acute ears and eyes allowed us to find some of the lesser-known species that we'd been chasing - and he is the best birdcall mimic I have ever heard! Along with El Jaguar, Montibelli is a must for anyone interested in seeing Nicaraguan birds. We did not go on any of the farm tours, but other guests spoke highly of the pineapple farm. If you decide to go to Montibelli, please consider taking a simple laser pointer as a gift for Eduardo - please.

We had a terrific time Birding and staying at Montibelli!
Our young guide Luis, although somewhat less than effusive, was really good at his job. He march us around spotting many birds that would have escaped our sight had it not been for his sharp eyes and ears. The highlight was a mating dance by 5 long tailed manakins ! The cabanas were fine and the food was really pretty good. I recommend this place for birders and if you’re lucky you’ll have Luis as your guide.

We stayed here for two nights last week. I am a beginning birder and it was so encouraging to be able to see such a variety of birds. Our guide Juan was very knowledgeable about where to get the best views. The accommodations were comfortable and meals delicious. You are away from it all, no internet just the sounds of the doves calling in the morning! Also enjoyed seeing how coffee grows!
