We had not heard of this monastery prior to visiting based on a recommendation in our guide book. It’s truly beautiful and absolutely important historically. I won’t go in to all those details as other reviewers have done so already. We took the tour which is short, visited the museum and Maximilian exhibits, all interesting. One bit of advise, the church and altar are spectacular, however during weddings it’s closed. We hung around after the wedding and snuck in. Most of the weddings are on Saturday.

Interesting building with a great deal of history and Baroque art. The church and the Music room have ceiling paintings. In the church are staues of characters from the Hapsbury empire.

the monastery is beautiful and well preserved. I stayed there for two nights and I had a great time. Breakfast a little poor but otherwise good

and one of the best preserved abbeys I've ever visited. The church is even fantastic even if you do not like the baroque. The preservation is perfect and the air is breathed and really quiet

This place is well worth a visit, inside its just beautiful, the Monks walk about around you, and its so peaceful and quiet the grounds are so well kept and the building itself is so clean, tidy and beautifully kept as is the church, just stunning, will go back again when we were next in Austria.

Guided tour with English-speaking guide is essential to appreciate the significance of the 17th Century Basilica with its onion-shaped towers and fine Baroque altars. Expect to see elaborate ceiling frescoes, huge mural paintings and secret hiding places in the floor for occasionally visiting Popes. Lavishly restored with gold leaf, following Nazi dissolution during 1938. Guest appearance by the resident cat nicely rounded-off our 'Riviera Travel' Tour excursion.

Includes small shop where, more could be done to exploit its Schnapps-distilling reputation.

Just off the main Innsbruck motorway, it was a nice stop-off. The main church is impressive although you peer in from one end. The monastery is nice to wander round. Whether it was because it was out of season, but we were able to just walk in and wander round - no mention of tickets!?

The Abbaye de Stams is very easy to reach from Innsbruck, being just a short and inexpensive train ride away. The whole area is very peaceful. If you can plan your times there is the guided tour. If you just arrive there you can still see inside the basilica but only through the gates, but still impressive. There is also the cafe and tea rooms. Well worth a visit.

Had an hour guided tour abbey with lots of background information about the abbey and its history over the years. It is on one of the routes of St James to Santiago de Compostela The inside of the church was amazing - the statues similar to the bronze ones in Hofkirke in Innsbruck but with a golden colour. Lots of intricate wood . The painting in the large room was amazing - such detail. Since the sun was shining we finished the time in Stams with a walk to the river and the hanging bridge.

The monk who did the tour was very informative and we had a really enjoyable tour.

This is a beautiful monastery and well worth a visit. It is in a gorgeous setting in lovely gardens and of course the views from it are stunning. There is a lovely gift shop where you can purchase schnapps which is still brewed at the monastery and prices are fairly reasonable.
