Not a lot to say about it. It contains interesting stuff of course but I found it a little bit toot small.
I did visit the NEW museum at a very hundred meters.

Excellent museum

Small but rich with the ancient artifacts from local area.

Every item is displayed nicely with Italian/English descriptions. It's a small museum but I think it got recently renovated since architecture is very modern.

I wish people would know more about this place. The history of Altino is very rich and deep and this museum deserves more recognition. The fee is only 3€.

Please give it a try.

Lovely Museum - More people need to know about it!

Very interesting and beautiful museum. Is a MUST see for those who are interested to know and see more about how everything started in Venice and who were the first inhabitants. The only feedback I have for the local authorities of the museum is to add further translated content in English in regards to the items' description. At the moment is only in Italian. There is a summary translated in English but not for the items, individualy shown behind the glass. The staff were very friendly and informative. The area around it, also is full of history! Check for the Roman road and the amphitheatre.

Hidden Treasure Revealed
Oct 2016 • Couples
We visited the archeological museum on the morning before a flight from Venice airport. It is located a short drive from the airport along country roads but it is miles away from the tourist traps of Venice. As you enter the village of Altino, on the right side of the road and on the edge of Santa Maria canal is a sympathetic Romanesque building housing the public displays. There are also a couple of modern buildings in the museum complex. There is a small car park behind the buildings. There is a small entrance fee. The exhibits start at the earliest archeological finds and flow freely forward in time as you wind your way around the ground floor. The grave site finds are particularly gruesome and morbid. Up on the next floor, you enter the time of the Roman Empire when Altino was a prosperous port city. The exhibits are fascinating. Apparently, the top floor has further exhibits of post Roman times but, it was closed when we visited. Everything we saw was well presented and there were some signs in English in addition to the detailed Italian descriptions. The archeological museum is a real hidden treasure off the typical tourist route but only a few minutes drive from Venice airport.

Interior quite small, some displays had no objects at all maybe it is still in development and not finished yet. The modern structure looks promising and hopefully they will use it well with more pieces. I also believe at least for the italian part that the descriptions are a bit too long and the average visitor might just want a summary and in case he is actually interested have the full description on the side. For the english part it looked better since the discription itself was a summary as not all the text in italian was translated to english.
