We parked at Antolina parking (GPS 42.983266,12.768920) and from there we needed about 15 mins of easy walking to reach the Menotre waterfall. It was a hot day, so walking in the shade was a real pleasure. Then we continued our way to Pale and to “eremo” (monastery). From the waterfall we needed less than 30 minutes to the monastery. The last part of the way is very steep, but it’s worth it. At the monastery there was a volunteer guide who gave us a lot of information about the monastery. It really was a perfect day.

We hiked up to the Eremo on Tuesday morning. Parking is in the little town of Pale, just east of Foligno. The hike was short and well-marked, but vigorous. The view from the top is stunning and it was incredibly peaceful.
The only downside was that we could not find any information online to call ahead or to confirm hours, so when we arrived at the Eremo, it was closed, and we did not get to see the inside.

We finally decided to organize a group of friends and hike up the mountain from down in the valley. The walk up was not nearly the awesome task we had thought it would be. The path was well-made,not too steep a grade although narrow and without any protection like a border fence or something so better take your time and be careful. The "monastery" is something out of the Middle Ages when hermits isolated themselves from society to pray and meditate. Some very primitive wallpaintings are the only decorations, everything is only the essential for living in extreme conditions.

A hermitage placed in the middle of a 1000 m mountain range, the mount of shovels. Reachable on foot with relative difficulty through a path that starts from the Borgo di pale reachable by car. To visit the interior, you need to ask for the key at the bar in the village, otherwise, you can still get to appreciate the construction set in the rock.

A bit of a work out but sense of accomplishment on the top where 5 benches allows for time to recharge

L'eremo non è aperto. Bisogna chiamare l'associazione di pale per far aprire L'eremo.
