Thanks for reading my many articles about my travel in Umbria. Not for certain since conditions for traveling there have greatly changed. Earthquakes were not a factor then as they are now. This was still central Italy without the layers of americanized Italian food to tantalize visitors as can readily be found elsewhere. Yet ham sandwiches then were known for what they were internationally. Choose local ingredients. I might have used prosciutto. I do recall adding many iItalian ingredients to my Italian ham sandwiches. I had an international student identification card at the time and I had to catch myself from veering too much in the direction followed by other tourists who did not seem to care what they ate between sites. I might have gone to the grocery store to buy the stuff and put everything together during lunch while sitting in a park. I learned that in Norway. Perugia is something else. This was the main thorough fare for leading tourists to Perugia and Assisi however through Umbria. I had come from Orvieto by train and might have consumed ham sandwiches purchased there or at home. I can not remember now. It was my style then for buying food at many grocery stores and making my sandwiches. Grocery stores have the ingredients. I know for sure that I did not go into restaurants to buy ham sandwiches or milkshakes. I tried very hard to not buy pre-made sandwiches as I wanted to make my own. Remember there was an Italian version of milkshakes and ham sandwiches so I made them rather than purchase them. Italian ice cream is much better for these purposes. I hope that this response to your question will help you. Best I can do now.
