Well maintained and a stunning memorial to honor the lives of those who sacrificed their own. A must see for anyone from a Commonwealth country

As an Australian with a grandfather that fought and was injured during the First World War here at Fromelles I wanted to come to this memorial to pay my respects to the fallen. It is quite a beautiful memorial and very well maintained. We climbed to the top of the tower to see the view over the valley. This part... More

This is must see if you are in the area. The memorial and cemetery are beautifully and tastefully set out, with an almost 360 degree view of the surrounding fields, many of which were battle fields 100 years ago (and, sadly, again in the second world war). To see the French and Australian flags flying together in honour of the... More

Beautifully kept with such a reverence and respect. It is so peaceful to walk around the grounds with a heart of gratitude for all those buried there.

Have been waiting to visit this place for 10 years. Now I have and it was truly worth the wait. This memorial is in a stunning location overlooking a valley. A somber and challenging place

We walked to the War Memorial three kilometers from the town. We walked just off the road so probably could have a dedicated track to it, though on our return we did get on a farm track however just isn't clear. The memorial is well looked after and provides a great view from the top. It is a lovely sight... More

This is written on a sign in the quadrangle of the Victoria School in Villers-Bretonneux. The school also houses a small museum dedicated to WW1 and the sacrifices made by the Australian soldiers (and others). The town has kangaroos and "Australia" all over it - and it made us quite proud and humble at the same time that Australians are... More

This is a beautiful monument to the fallen, honouring those that gave their lives. A tribute to the soldiers but also a wonder that so many were sent to their deaths. The monument is a peaceful place overlooking the valley, a wonderful view. There is a lot of building work going on at the moment which when finished will add... More

Visited this beautiful yet sombre place and couldn't help but be moved by the experience. It was hard to imagine such a beautiful place being the site of so much tragedy. I was so pleased that I was able to pay my respects in some small way to all those who died

The Australian memorial to the missing is impressive and there are also graves. A new visitor centre is being constructed along with other improvement works to commemorate the centenary anniversary of the end of the war in 1918-2018, (80th anniversary of the memorial) which is disturbing the peace somewhat at present. We climbed the tower. Ironically we did forget the... More
