About

We love castles and had Chantilly on our bucket list for a while. Really glad we finally got to visit it even if I prefer castles of a more human size and with a more subtle decoration. However, from a historical point of view, it was a very interesting visit. The part I preferred was the Great Stables and the Museum of the horse. The stables are huge and really impressive (and the horses gorgeous). The museum was really interesting and displayed items that I had never seen before (antique saddles and carriages among other things). Both the stables and the museum visits are included in the overall fee, and I recommend that you make some time to see them.

One of the best chateaus to visit in France, located about an hour north of Paris, this chateau truly defines what a chateau is meant to be. Majestic layout and a lot to see, you would need to spend a few days here to see it all. The estate itself is massive and besides the chateau, there are outer buildings, the surrounding forest and trails, and the stables. The art collection itself is said to only be rivaled by that of the Louvre. Quite impressive display. The audio guide is available in several languages and does a great job taking you through the many rooms and art on exhibit throughout the chateau. Plan to spend the better part of a day here to at least see the chateau interior. There's a good sized gift shop on site and a restaurant as well. Parking is available just across from the chateau. If you come during the week, be prepared to compete with school groups at times for space in the rooms, or simply visit where the rooms where the classes aren't. Either way, plan to take your time and enjoy. There's a wealth of history and art to be seen and heard here.
If you're a member of the Amis du Louvre, or other groups/memberships, you can also attain a discount, so be sure to check and book ahead of time.

I enjoyed visiting this chateau more than Versailles for several reasons....less crowded, more to do, and most importantly this property has more cultural, historical, and artistic relevance. I learned a lot watching a movie they offer, located in the chapel inside the chateau, subtitles in English. I watched it before touring, which I recommend, about 12 minutes long. Be aware that the audio guide is downloaded to your phone so you need earbuds. I recommend downloading before you visit because my download so slow I was done before download complete. The walk from train station LONG, at least a mile one way, some shade. If you have mobility impaired guests, get taxi or drive. I ate lunch at the restaurant inside the chateau and enjoyed very much. I lived the Stag Room/dining room, perhaps my favorite. I was here 4 hours, could have spent more time. So glad I came, worth leaving Paris for!

The Chateau de Chantilly is not exactly what it might appear... it looks to all intents and purposes as if it has stood for centuries, but in fact it's a late 19th century building, rebuilt after the original chateau was torn down during the French Revolution. Made more famous by the James Bond film "A View To A Kill", the building is a real beauty, and houses one of the finest art collections in France, including works by Raphael, Joshua Reynolds and Hans Holbein among others. Although we had a bit of rain, the walk round the expansive grounds was also a real treat, and the ticket also includes access to the wonderful stable complex on the edge of the town centre.

We loved it but the person at the entrance of the château was rude. We were having problem with WiFi and he didn't care. He was looking at his phone. I have a Turkish phone, my daughter American so there was no free Wifi as it's written and he didn't know the password. So we couldn't have the headphones for the visit. I prefer like Vaux Le Vicompte with real headphones for the foreigners who don't want to ruin themselves with the roaming Data usage. However, the guide for the private apartments was excellent. His name's Pol (Paul). We really enjoyed it. He also recommended the strawberry tart with chantilly cream at the farm café which is open till 6 pm. Other café restaurant is closed at 5h30 pm. We didn't have time for lunch but if you are late there's no savoury dish, only sweet.

Many times have seen the signs driving down to Paris, but never made it here yet.
Although a wet period and therefore the gardens were less appealing, the castle made more than up for it.
Whilst most of it has been built only after the French Revolution, it looks it’s part and is said to have caused the King to build Versailles as this was so beautiful.
The last owner spend all his time collecting (books, manuscripts, drawings and paintings) and made sure they were beautifully shown in his castle. And he made sure now they cannot be moved around!
We also did the tour of the private apartments (fully in French) which gave a nice insight into both the owner and how he was living there.
Did not get to the stables or show (was sold out) so that (and the gardens) will have to be another visit.

We rented a car from Paris to go. We spent a lot of time driving from downtown Paris just to find out that the parking lot did not take my credit card for a €5 payment. I tried both gates and it did not work. I pressed the “help” button in each and nobody answered. We had to drive back.

The Chantilly Castle, considered one of the finest jewels in the crown of France's cultural heritage is the work of Henry d'Orleans, known as the greates collector of his time. I was impressed, I must say. Its Art galleries, which house the second largest collection of antique paintings in France after the Louvre, drew my attention. But so did the suites on the first floor, despite the fact that the reading room is (was) clearly the highlight of this visit.

Worth the visit to see the stunning chateaus as well as explore the relaxing grounds. Teenage son especially enjoyed taking pictures and walking through the parks We also reserved a table at restaurant du Hameau which was an excellent choice. Planning to visit again but starting earlier in the day.

The location is gorgeous but actually very close to the town, but you don't see that in photos. The grounds were not that well kept and there were weeds in the gardens when you actually were up close to see them. The rooms you tour are limited and you don't see the kitchen or a bedroom. Has a big art collection but chances are you've already been to the Louvre to see similar period artwork. Long walks from parking and from town to get in.

Dear CASECHI,
We are sorry to read your disappointment following your visit to the Château de Chantilly.
The visit of the castle invites you to visit the Large Suites of the Princes of Bourbon-Condé, the Reading Room, the Art Galleries (which is the second largest collection of antique paintings in France, after the Louvre Museum) and the Chapel. You can find all informations on our website: https://chateaudechantilly.fr/en/chateau/.
You can also visit the private apartments of the Duke of Aumale in addition to your entrance ticket.
We hope to see you soon for a new visit.

The parking lot for the Chateau is south of the entrance. You may drop your passengers right at the gate and then drive down to the parking lot where you will find plenty of space for large buses or couches.
