Stunning mosque, in terms of the history, the woodwork, tiles and mosaic work in the Mihrab, and the backstory of the 'pool' (kar havuzu) that used to be uncovered, and served to keep the timber moisturised thanks to evaporating water. The good people of Beyşehir are also incredibly hospitable, and you will be able to obtain a free book about the mosque, but it's written in Turkish.

Across the mosque is a tea place which is a thoroughly charming, typical country-town place from which you can look across the camii one more time while drinking your tea.

A very beautiful mosque. Excellent wood woodwork. That region definitely needs modern, clean toilets. There are very historical places such as the Hittite Water Monument, and toilets like toilets should be built for more publicity and tourists.

On the lake shore, the mosque is very nice with wooden columns. A must to visit. Avoid prayer time. Ladies can enter but think about having a small scarf to cover the head.

Wonderful stone exterior with ornate carved entrance. Interior has wooden columns with painted detail at top, and a flat wooden roof which is very unusual. Visit early in the morning to avoid the coach loads of tourist. No entrance fee but good to leave a donation. Kind Turkish woman helped me wear my scarf Turkish style, and must take off shoes to enter. On leaving bought some lovely hand-knitted socks from her! Good views of the lake and town around the mosque.

Eşrefoglu Mosque is a must see in Turkey not only because it's the biggest, best preserved wooden columned and roofed mosque in Islamic World but also its imam is an exemplary clergyman.

We had the chance to visit the mosque with the guidance provided by this imam and he explained us every detail in the most understandable manner, even for those who are not familiar with Islam. It was a great experience. He also wrote a very detailed book about the mosque, available both in Turkish and English and if you ask him, he will provide the book as well.

I wish all ancient mosques in Turkey had such enlightened imams...

Stopped here while touring, beautiful mosque with wooden pillars and carvings worthy of a stop. Potentially unesco heritage site. We were able to talk to the imam which was fascinating. Make the trip and enjoy

In this less traveled region of Turkey, Beyshir, near the lake of the same name, is a quiet oasis. In the XIII century it occupied a srategic position on the silk road.

Today it is worth a detour for one of the best preserved mosque in Turkey. Quite ordinary from the outside but a special cedar interior with 39 columns, a unique center 'snow pit', a Mehrab with turquoise and black tiles, an unusual tribune makes it a protected UNESCO site.

Hope you also meet the local ladies outside selling the colourful wollen socks and gloves they knit during the winter

The woodwork in the mosque is superb. It is hard to believe those ornaments have endured so many years.

Unfortunately some adjoining buildings were still in renovation when we visited. Luckily the mosque was open to public and we could see the old wooden beams and the impressive interieur
