During a recent trip to Europe with friends we drove between Garmisch Germany and Ulm Germany. The route we took led us right by Lake Plansee and the Lake ended up being one of my favorite views of our entire trip. The lake sits at...More
An absolutely beautiful place! The surrounding mountains, road next to the lake and emerald colored water make this a must stop! There are many places along the road to pull over and enjoy the views. We will definitely be back!
On our way to Linderhof from Austria we drove along the beautiful lake of Plansee. The bad surprise was just after when suddenly the road was blocked. It took us more than 1h30 min to reach Linderhof through another road ... what is really disappointing...More
Took a drive up to the Plansee after walking around Oberammergau. It was some of the most beautiful scenery...snow-capped mountains, a large lake the color of emeralds...it was stunning. I am so glad we went — it was a highlight of our trip.
This beautiful lake is frozen in winter but still offers stunning views of its icy water and the surrounding mountains. Be warned that if you plan to stop at the Hotel Forelle for refreshment it will be closed until 14 March.

Day trip from Garmisch to the Castles (2 Replies)
I will be in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for 3 days next month and have allocated one day to drive to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. I am interested in opinions as to which to go to first, and is it worth doing a tour inside both or only one? I had planned to drive direct to Hohenschwangau to buy tickets, go inside Neuschwanstein, then go to Marienbrucke to see the view from there, then drive via Plansee to Linderhof and tour there also. I am also concerned about crowds as it will be a...More

What you might consider doing is ordering your tickets on-line for Neuschwanstein. That way you will not have to wait in a very long line to buy them, only in the shorter line for reserved tickets. You could try to get the earliest available tickets and then plan your day from there. You need to pick up your tickets from the ticket office at least an hour before your tour is scheduled to begin, since it will take a bit to climb the mountain (either by bus, foot or carriage). The line of...More

I plan to visit Lermoos, Berwang and Plansee on Austria side, and Eibsee, Grainau and may be Mittenwald on Germany side in April 2015. It will be very much appreciated if someone could help answer my following questions? 1) As I will be travelling between those places by trains/buses, is Ehrwald or Grainau a better place to base myself? 2) Is there any day ticket for trains/buses that I can purchase to travel unlimitedly between those places? 3) Is the train between Grainau and...More

Hiking around Lake Plansee (2 Replies)
I will be in the area in a few weeks (hoping snow doesn't hit) and I want to hike around Lake Plansee and the surrounding mountains - can anyone please point me to a website (preferrably in English but anything will do) which has hiking trails in that are for me. Thanks!
