As in evry other church everything is very neat, it quite peaceful here but it is really full of tourists, also we went here over the weekend. The church is rather small but it is worth visiting. Additionally, the museum hosts old Christian paitings dating back to xviii century.

The land in front of the monastery didn't look really nice, it was more like under-construction, without real construction. But after I got inside the complex, I was stunned by how it's kept in well shape. Also I have to say that there is nice and drinkable water.

As I live in Brasov, I visit this wonderful place once a moth, anytime my soul needs a moment of peace and tranquility.
The feeling you have once you enter the big wonderful gates of the monastery, a feeling of peace and tranquility surrounds you. If you are lucky enough to arrive there during the religious ceremony, you will desire to stay forever. Everything is peace and love, green grass and flowers, calm waters. A perfect place for meditation and introspection.

The Brancoveanu Monastery of Sambata de Sus is situated at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains, the highest Romanian mountains. The monastery is renowned as a place of silence, comfort and strengthening of mind for believers and visitors who halt or pray in the sanctuary. Brancoveanu Monastery history begins in the XVI century through indirect testimonies by stating the existence of monks at the monastery here in various acts, dispersed, the first direct evidence we have dating since 1654. Around the year 1696, Constantin Brâncoveanu, (the ruler of Wallachia between 1688 and 1714), re-built the monastery in stone, in order to strengthen and save the Romanian Orthodoxy from the danger of Catholicism, which appeared when Transylvania was ruled by the Habsburgs. The Brancoveanu Monastery Museum has one of the richest collections of ancient paintings on glass, belonging to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the vast majority performed in the way "people's naive", sculptures in wood predominating Brancoveanu style, bishop and priest vestments, a unique collection old books, manuscripts, parchment, writing and a valuable collection of religious objects.
Anyhow, even if you are not a religious man or interested in medieval history, try to take a glimpse of tranquility and fresh air, resting on a wooden bench and looking to the beautiful scenery of the close mountains.

This could be a superb visit for anyone interested in buildings and art and with a respect for religious intent (we are ourselves not Christian)
This is working Orthodox Monastery but is welcoming to all (unless you are wearing a see through blouse or shorts). The monks (of all ages) are going about their everyday tasks but are in no way intimidating.
It was rebuilt in the 20th Century and is now spawning something of a tourist (or should that be pilgrimage) centre a short way from it, but this in no way detracts from the calm atmosphere and superb design. Photos can be seen on the Monastery's own website.
There is a modern church integral to the complex, and also a reconstructed wooden church, both of which are decorated in the rich Orthodox style. The iconography showed the saints as inspirational objects of veneration rather than in the more gruesome style of Western Christianity

Founded in 1696 and much restored in the 1930s, Brancoveanu Monastery is a truly beautiful and peaceful place, with lovely Orthodox chapels, cloisters, colonnades, immaculate gardens with priests and nuns quietly going about their daily business.

In the church and chapels are some magnificent icons - one, of the Final Judgement had an interesting depiction of a naked sinner on his way to hell being spanked by a horned and winged devil - the rest of the icons are rather more conventional!

Everything was glazing around there.
In the back there is a pond where you can see live fishes, green places.
You can also book rooms there to stay over the night.
Don't really need a pre booking, but you should call just in case.
Beautiful Monastery.
I will add some pictures these days.

It was built in 17th century by the king from where it took the name. The architectural style it also got the same name and is can be found in buildings in the south of Romania built in that century. The views of the mountains close to the monastery are amazing. The monastery itself is a spiritual place.
