They archeological history as well as history of the settlers

Interesting to see the history of the area as much as they are able to present. It is obviosly a work in progress, but well worth the visit!

While visiting BI in late September we were on the island for 2 additional days as the ferry wasn't running due to rough seas. As a courtesy to visitors the staff at the museum opened up on Thursday & Friday afternoons on days it would have normally been closed. We enjoyed the various exhibits as well as the film showing... We spent several hours at the Historical Society on our recent first trip to Block Island....and we wanted to spend More! The organization & staff is fantastic, with wonderful attention to all visitors questions and interests. The video about the moving of the Lighthouse was a highlight, and we will be back for more information, videos and tours!

This collection of antiques from BI This collection of antiques have items I have never seen before in tours of many historic museums, such as a metal skirt hoop and a commercial stove to heat flat irons. "Block Islanders never throw out anything." In several rooms there were artifacts to show various aspects of living and working there. A recent... More

The Director took time after hours to speak with us about items in the collection. You get a great sense of Block over time here. Super photo exhibit on... More

Spent over an hour wandering through the exhibits memorializing Block Island's past. Fascinating displays, and lots of model ships and other nautical memorabilia

Small, small place. Exhibit very limited. I thought there'd be someone to explain things. You walk in and young guy looks like he's bored out of his skull. You go in see exhibit in small room. It's all hodge podge. Too bad probably could be interesting but you won't get any info or anyone to acknowledge you. It is very... More

We try to go to the Historical Society every visit to the Island. They change their displays often, so it's always new and exciting. Went I was doing research for a book they were very helpful.
