Great

I looked at the reviews and thought not fr me, then I looked at what people complained about, most of it has nothing to do with the food or service,Been for a meal with my wife, daughter and Grandchildren, they were very busy but did there best and I have no complaints at all, food was very nice and service was great……I am 67 and most of the staff were very young but did a tremendous job……….people need to remember these people are trying to do there best to please us……..give them some support otherwise you won’t be going out!

Dog friendly gem
Aug 2021 • Couples
Great service and super dog friendly. Just happened upon this gem along the Wear, near the Victoria viaduct and Riverside walks.
The staff were friendly and well organised.
Table service was swift, including water and treats for the dogs.

Good food and company

First time I've had a meal at the Havelock.

Food was absolutely first rate, but the visit was made extra special by the friendly and attentive staff.

Special mention to Abby, it felt like she went out of her way to make sure our visit was enjoyable.

Discriminates against people who cannot wear a mask.
Jun 2021
This pub discriminates against people with disabilities & health issues. Husband medically exempt & wears a lanyard. They refused to let him use the toilet (even though he'd been buying drinks there) unless he wore a mask or produced an exemption certificate (no such thing needed). He had to put a mask on to use the loo. On the way back he saw a friend & said hello. He could not breathe so lowered the mask. They then refused him any more drinks "because he lowered his masks on the way back from the toilet". This is disability discrimination and illegal under the Equalities Act 2010. Ruined his first day out for over a year with his friends. Happy to take his money though. We will be making a formal complaint.

Disrespectful manageress
Aug 2020 • Friends
Myself and sibling daughter and mum went there after having a lovely meal in adjacent pub Fiume which was beautiful. We sat at a table in the pub and when ordered drinks baring in mind around 4 pm asked if could pay separately the young waitress obliged and was so lovely. We ordered another round of drinks and the manageress came over and said that they only took money for the table - we could accept that but it’s the way she said it not very good customer service at all. Because we objected to her being nasty with us she then told us to stop laughing later even though there was a table beside us with people laughing there. Just think she was rude and now won’t be going there anymore

Beautiful

Visited here on a Wednesday afternoon for some food. Seated quickly and drinks order was taken and they arrived pretty much straight away. Myself, boyfriend and mother ordered the butterfly chicken. Myself and mother had the bbq and mozzarella topping and my boyfriend had the fresh garlic, lime and chilli. The chicken was cooked absolutely beautifully, it came with asparagus, flat mushroom and a few lettuce leaves. You can choose from chips, rice, veg or salad as a side. The food was so tasty and wasn’t like a generic food chain type food. I will definitely be returning.

Dropped in for a couple of drinks last Saturday night. Bar was busy, restaurant pretty empty. Was pleasant enough. Recently refurbished so has a nice ambiance.

Return your beer at your own peril.
Sep 2019
I went to the Havelock today for a couple of drinks with my wife.We are both pensioners out for a Sunday afternoon drink. My wife had her normal glass of wine and I got my usual pint of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord beer.By the time I got to my seat in the bar I could see the head on my beer wasn’t looking good.I drank some to see if it tasted ok.Although not great,I could see it was also still cloudy. It then lost it’s head altogether.I took it back to the bar saying it wasn’t right upon which the bartender asked if I wanted something else but noticed he was giving the Landlord(who was sitting at the end of the bar)a nod and a wink that I had returned my beer.I asked for the other Timothy Taylor beer which was called river something. It came out with a head that was very thin and of a mottled complexion and very cloudy.I tasted it,which was awful and asked for a John Smiths. At this point ,again after a nod and wink, the Landlord came over and promptly said,That’s the second beer you have brought back, there’s you money back and get out.I’ve been drinking real ale for nearly 50years and know when a beer is not right. Also in all our lives we have NEVER been told to get out of a pub.Never go back.Hate to think what will happen to you if you send food back!

Poor standards have gone downhill
Sep 2019 • Couples
We've ate here for years and after our last visit I'm doubtful we will return. Service was fine but the food has drastically changed for the worse. Sweet chilli chicken was drowned in sauce that ran into the chips and salad, the naan bread was nothing of the sort more like a homemade cloud bread tasteless. The chips were awful like yesterdays scrag ends from the chip shop and nothing like previous portions. I barely touched my meal is was not to standard. My husband had some chicken special and it was as dry as sticks accompanied by the cloud not naan bread. Not worth the money at all.
