Nice little spot.

Being from Sunderland where is pub is located I've visited a fair few times, theres not many pubs like this in Sunderland these days, It's got a nice charm to it, quite small and intimate. lots of choice with beers and spirits.

I must say though theres never ice when I visit there or its something that resembles fridge scrapings in the glass, so my whiskey remains tepid at best, can't say the 2L bottled coke they sell does anything for my spirits either but its there if you like yours mixed.

I'd say the majority of people who get in are old men, punks or from the alternative scene, not sure it's the best for couples unless you're the Cid and Nancy punk type then maybe this will tickle your fancy.

its worth a dodge in if you're around the area, plus you don't get the weird sunderland power drinkers in there, can't really complain about prices or staff either.

One for substance over style
Jul 2017 • Friends
If you're looking for elegance or a hipster movement this is not for you. The whole character of the place is all about a good old fashioned ale house. Good range of beers available. The Stella and Guinness are second to none. Chilled out atmosphere. The owner, Sarah is very friendly and runs a good house.

Watered down drinks and No JD
Jan 2017 • Couples
We called in to this pub as Dandys was shut and asked for a white wine and JD and Coke.

No JD, no Schmirnoff so had a pint of fosters. Worst pint in a long time piss poor service from the staff who had no interest and watered down Pinot Grigio.

Pub has lots of character but wouldn't go there again even if it was the last pub in Sunderland. I would recommend the Ship Isis just down the road, real ale and a lot more class.

Didn't quite live up to expectations
Oct 2015 • Couples
Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but we found that the pub didn't live up to our expectations. It looks very appealing and traditional from the outside, but inside it was just sort of 'ordinary'. The soft drinks were dispensed from 2litre supermarket bottles and ice was a commodity in short supply. The toilets were breathtakingly grim and uncared for, a real throwback to how pub toilets used to be 30 years ago. However, the welcome was enthusiastic and the beer was good, so all was not lost. I'd probably go back there with 'the lads' and drink beer, but not go there for a date.

Best TRADITIONAL Pub in Sunderland
One of the Oldest still living and lively TRADITIONAL PUB in Sunderland.
Always a warm welcome with its old coal fire, REAL ALES served daily, premium and imported ales and beers, And a wide range of selected spirits available. Always has it's friendly locals and quirky regulars around, with live music from local bands and musicians on selected dates. Great meeting place for a quiet drink, and a lively pit stop on a night out, and a good round off at last orders.
