Riverdance -5th November 2021
Nov 2021 • Family
Recently attended to see Riverdance, show was amazing . The Venue lack of masks and no spacing in the seats even though they had restrictions in place I.e covid passport and certain times to arrive which was promising as I am CEV but when inside the seating and no masks was very worrying, thankfully I have had both jabs but never less we have waited 2 years to see this and to be honest I don't think they were bothered about spacing people out just they were thinking of the revenue they were taking. I emailed them and the reply was it was out of there control, which I disagree.

Awful Customer Service
Oct 2021
My family had an awful experience at this venue. Tickets purchased before lockdown from ATG tickets were deemed "Duplicates", we had never actually received tickets from them until 2/3 weeks before the show and had no contact from them in almost 2 years, An older member of staff embarrassed and belittled my family, letting everyone in close proximity loudly know that. My family almost in tears after Id spent £127 on tickets for them to see a show had no respect shown to them from staff. They almost missed the show and disturbed the full front row to get to their seats when finally allowed in. After their awful experience, I complained to the venue and their ticket sellers, My reply stating basically it was my fault for not using original tickets ( I ONLY GOT THE PDF TICKETS 2WEEKS BEFORE) and also my families fault for being late ( THEY WERE IN A QUEUE GOING THROUGH CHECKS WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE BEHIND). a beautiful show was ruined by the way the staff here treat a family who only wanted to see a show. Hugely disappointing, have seen a good few shows here before, will never return. They could learn a lot from theatres in the West End, where staff are totally inclusive and make everyone feel welcome.

Rules of entry
Oct 2021
Went to see Waitresses last night. After having to show proof of Covid jabs, We were quite surprised and disappointed to find it was not mandatory for the public to wear face masks. All the staff were wearing them!

Great shows
Oct 2021 • Friends
A friend and I recently watched a show and were lucky to have seats close to the stage so the view was great.
We queued for a short while to get in as you need either a covid pass or confirmation of a negative test and everyone was checked, the staff were pretty efficient and the queue for the bar was longer. The bar was expensive as expected within a theatre.
I found that there was no queue for ladies toilets straight before the show started but it was constantly busy after that.
Overall it was a great experience and the building is lovely. The members of staff I interacted with were polite and friendly. I’d definitely recommend the theatre for a show and will return.

Rocky Horror Show
Sep 2021 • Couples
We went to see Rocky Horror which was excellent. The Empire is a stunning venue and we sat in the dress circle which was comfortable with a super view. The staff were super friendly. The only points for improvement would be a better staffed bar area as the queues can really build up. Also, whilst the main venue was really airy, the area for drinks was really stuffy and it was fortunate we were wearing so few clothes.

Lovely theatre, awful drink prices!
Sep 2021 • Friends
Saw Rocky Horror last night and after a good few years away was reminded what a lovely theatre this is. I was however somewhat disappointed to find that two cans of Carlsberg and a coke came to £14.50!!... that, I am afraid, is well out of order and detracts from an otherwise lovely night!

Gorgeous theatre

Another great experience in such a lovely building where you are almost transported back in time.
It was an extremely pleasant evening, this time being entertained by the cast of Dirty Dancing - and what a performance it was..... a must see show!
It pains me not to give this venue full marks but I was shocked by the extortionate prices at the bar! I appreciate that prices may be marked up because of the surroundings but these were eye-watering!

Extremely disappointed and totally out of pocket
Sep 2021 • Couples
Would have received more satisfaction setting fire to my hard earned cash than have to sit through 'entertainment' classed as The Paul Smith show, again.
The evening 'schedule'was perhaps a ploy to capture an early audience (all by 7pm)and charge £16 for 2 drinks! Until the main act came on.
We had 10/15 minutes of very tired 'comedy'then a vile support act who told a 'joke' about 'dicks'which seemed to ramble on and on being totally pointless and very boring.

A large section of the audience were up and down to the bar all the time causing discomfort and disruption to fellow patrons, and after a total of 20 mins had to give in for fear of nodding off in boredom.

Appalling 'entertainment'very lack lustre and too much drink continued to be served to punters who couldn't walk or talk to start with ....I always thought it was illegal to serve alcohol to drunks........
On this showing am cancelling my other shows already booked off last year.

Disappointing to say the least
Sep 2021 • Friends
Paul Smith. What a disappointing evening. 10 minutes of poor comedy followed by a support act which made 90% of the audience leave or talk amongst themselves, followed by 30 minutes of nothing. Absolutely disappointing you should be ashamed of yourselves Sunderland Empire. If you continue with acts like this you will be closed longer than 18 months.
