A new sculpture park at Midtasen opened summer 2009 featuring a selection of the works of Knut Steen in marble and bronze. The sculptures are placed within their own pavilion in the midst of beautiful natural surroundings. Free entrance
We followed the marked route from the tourist information centre, it was a bit of a hike but we'll worth it.
Midtasen was lovely we followed the route to the top water holding tank and back through to the sculptures. They were astoundingly beautiful.
In Midtåsen park in Sandefjord a museum pavillion has been created for the Norwegian sculptor Knut Steen who died in 2011. The museum has 16 of his statues; 12 made of marble, while 4 are placed around the garden in bronze.
The good thing about this park, is that you can walk around and you can also see the sculptures at times when the gallery is closed, due to the building, almost entirely built in glass. As nice as the sculptures inside the gallery, is the...More
Sandefjord kommune, Vestfold fylkeskommune, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Anders Jahres humanitære stiftelse has made some of Knut Steens brilliant sculptures awailable to the public at Midtåsen. Go there when In Sandefjord.
The sculpture park is partly in house and partly outdoors. There are some interesting works to watch. In addition, the park surrounds a mansion that used to belong to one of Norway's great ship owners. Guided tours need to be arranged. Try the cafe inside....More
