About
Our 2024 season opens from 4 May to 13 Oct. The sculpture park is always accessible, even outside regular opening hours and the season. Area tickets must be purchased at one of the entrances upon arrival. Note that some of the sculptures may have been turned off or wrapped during winter. Kistefos offers world-class architecture, industrial history, art exhibitions, and an impressive sculpture park in scenic surroundings. The sculpture park expands with one or more sculptures each year and includes works by leading artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Fernando Botero, Marc Quinn, and Anish Kapoor. The architectural masterpiece The Twist is a gallery, a bridge, and a sculpture, all in one. Together with Nybruket Gallery, The Twist will host varied exhibitions of world-renowned artists. We wish you a sensory and inspiring day in scenic surroundings!

    Most Unique Museum
We loved this unique outdoor museum. Took the 10:15 express bus from Oslo and arrived at 11:30. Wandered the property and took in all the sculptures and original art. I especially enjoyed the historic paper pulp factory. Our only mistake was leaving on the 2:30 bus to visit the glass factory 15 minutes up the road. Not worth the visit and we were stuck there until 4:30 when the bus returned to Oslo. Spend the entire day at Kistefos and pass on the glass factory. Totally unique place.

A fantastic art museum to spend a day
Before to visit this museum, I thought whether it's good to take about 1hr30min (one-way) to go here from the central station. Having checked their website, the artworks were beautiful. Then I decided to come here. Finally, we were not disappointed except it was raining all the day. The artworks were very great and special. We took many pictures for everything. I might be regret if I did not come here. Location: It is easy to go by the express bus from the central station. But remember to check the schedule before hand. It is only one bus to the museum and one bus back to the central station per day Food: There is a cafe in the museum. Though it was not many selections of food, it's still good to having lunch here. Staff: They were really polite and helpful. Family: I think it's a good museum for family. No matter young children or teens, they will enjoy here. The W.C. of washrooms of the twist was special. Remember to check it out.

After an enjoyable visit at the Glassworks we turned towards a fine walk to Kistefos, about 4 km. Passing Randsfjord Kirke and on an off-road path it was a pleasant way to arrive, taking less than an hour.

It’s a remarkable emporium of sculpture and painting, in a former industrial site of a wood pulp mill.

Bjarne Melgaard's Octopus and Energy Matter Space Time by Petroc Sesti were some of the first pieces we met. Crossing the river is to see a sculptural waterfall reflecting the past use of the site.

In the form of a bridge across water, the incomparable Twist Gallery had a marvellous exhibition by the talented Paulina Olowska. Her works such as The She-Ornitologist, The School of Archery, A La Galcante and Monologue, and many more, are superb.

As part of the installation and to bring the surrounding wood inside she designed an interior wood from building materials. In some is inbuilt little scenes from life and folktales.

Totally worth the little trip from Oslo. This place is so much more than great architecture (The Twist). The indoor gallery and outdoor installations are exceptionally well curated. Even the non-art lover I visited with was impressed. The highlight of the cafe (food truck) was the savoury pancake.

What impressed me was the unique combination of wild Norwegian nature, old industrial buildings and world class contemporary art. Walking through the old industrial site along the river and passing all these fantastic installations and sculptures was one of the best art experiences I have had in a long time. The collector and founder, Christen Sveaas, has used his heritage in the best possible way, and collected art with a very good eye for artistic quality. The artists here are usually found in the largest and most important museums and galleries wordlwide, and it is nearly a schock to see them out in nature in provincial Norway. Not to mention the crowning glory, the Twist, an incredible building that doubles as gallery and bridge! With a twist in the middle. Hoping to come back!

I had read about this museum and its grounds and had to arrange a private driver from Oslo. (About the cost of a shore excursion if you were coming on a cruise.) It is about a one hour trip, and we spent about 3 hours at the museum. The surroundings are beautiful, and the variety and creativity of the sculptures on the grounds are wonderful. Architecturally, the museum is stunning from the outside, but it is well worth going inside to see the structure from the inside. The collections seem to vary, and there is not a lot to see inside - except you MUST visit the bathrooms downstairs. Really. An impossible-to-describe experience. All together, well worth it and a gdrat day out of town.

Will definitely recommend a trip to this out- and indoor sculpture- and art park. Nice, and the size is just right - varied terrain with nice small gravel roads along both sides of the river. Interesting sculptures and other pieces and installations of contemporary art. The building/gallery The Twist, crossing the river, is of course a piece of work! Suitable for all ages. Nice little outdoor cafe area.

Large parking facility right by the entrance (85 NOK), easy walk in and around the park, entrance fee was 195 NOK per adult. First time here and we were very much impressed and will be back! Loved The Twist with the exhibition of Tony Cragg's work and the sculptures around the park. Beautiful, lush scenery and fun, interesting and thought provoking art spread all over the place. Bought soft and delicious focaccia bread for lunch. It was a good mix of history, art galleries, museums and sculptures. Highly recommended.

An exceptional place ! This fantastic sculpture park and museum on the outskirts of Oslo shows the artworks of many renown artists in a unique scenery. The surroundings are beautiful. Ideal during good weather, the tour ends in the indoor museum building “The Twist” with an indoor exhibition. The park is also interesting to see for kids and teenagers. Thank you Mr. Christen Sveaas for sharing all this with us.

Kistefos, the nature, the old sawmill are beautiful. The twist also. And to place modern sculpture in the enviroment is a happy idea. The cost of nok180 for entrance and 75 for parking...ok. The cafe terrible. Rude staff, dirty tables and highly overpriced, burned food. If you go there, be sure to bring food and drink!
