About
The open air museum shows day-to-day life of farmer and tenant families in Sunnfjord in the middle of the 1800’s. The houses showcase a variety of building techniques and traditions from the 16th through the 19th century. We offer guiding, changing exhibits, events, and educational programs for children. The place has beautiful and quiet surroundings with a herb garden and cultural paths.

The museum shows impressive old farm houses. There are so many details to explore. When at the information, ask for going IN the houses. The guide showed us many houses and explained everything so nice. She had answers to all our questions. The museum is surely interesting for everyone!

The museum has relocated around a dozen old rural buildings from the region to this site and most of them are open to have a look through. A few are fitted out for modern use, such as functions. There is also a nice old school building, complete with desks.
The main visitor centre has a gift shop on the ground floor and an exhibition space on the upper floor - there was an interesting exhibition of stories of local identities while we were there.

This museum tell about living, housekeeping and farming in Norway many decades ago. Nice small buildings, you can bring your own food and sit down in the grass looking at the amazing viev over the water. Its a good place for weddings and other celebrations.

It was like being transported back in time to the mid 1800s when we visited Sunnfjord Open Air Museum. Our very knowledgable guide explained so much about the buildings, their interiors and the way of life, we were almost part of the community as we knew so much. This is not to be missed with the walk pleasant even if the weather was a little wet.

It is possible to walk around the buildings at any time for free which is what we did. however the young woman in the attached shop was very friendly and knowledgeable and we wish we had time to stay for a paid guided tour
