About
From Kristiansand in the south to Haugesund in the north, this renowned coastal route treats you to magnificent and varied views of the North Sea. After leaving the town of Kristiansand, head northwest. You will soon leave behind the gentle landscape of Southern Norway and enter into Fjord Norway proper. The North Sea Road climbs as it winds its way past the dramatic Jossingfjord. It continues to Egersund, a major fisheries and ferry port. Further northwards are miles and miles of rough-hewn terrain that finally yield to the wide expanses of Jaeren. Here, as far as your eye can see, are cultivated fields and sand dunes, and beaches covered with sand or pebbles. The North Sea Road continues into lively Stavanger, European City of Culture in 2008. You can continue by ferry to the charming fishing village of Skudeneshavn on Karmoy. A little further, at the end of the journey, lies Haugesund, with a memorial to Harald Fairhair, who in 872 gathered Norway into one kingdom.

Driving the North Sea Road is such a wonderful experience. Driving through the mountains and the "Troll" landscape, with the narrow rocky roads, towards the farm landscape in Jaeren - but if you´re an unsteady driver you should only be a passenger this time.
Witnessing Jaeren in the sunset is amazing. A fantastic route - from Flekkefjord to Stavanger.

Land, sea, sky. The sea, the dunes, the coastline, the small houses, the walls of stones make this landscape unique. It always generates strong sensations and emotions of space, nature, loneliness and peace, but also of extreme power like during stormy weather conditions. Recommended all season, but during summer evenings can be lovely.

I have gone this road many times, to visit the Christmas Town in Egersund during December, but most importantly I have ride it a few times in the Nordsjørittet competition (of course I do it for the ride, not to win it, for that I need to be 25 years younger and something between 20 to 30 Kg less in weight :-O). Now riding in this event is something totally different than riding on your own or with a group of friends. The energy from all the people going with you, the cheering of all the people along the road, the breathtaking sceneries, you come the the finish line exhausted but happy to have dome it. This is an experience that I recommend to all those who like to do off-road cycling.

A fantastic route that we always show our friends no matter they visit us or move into this country. Along the route you can see many different sceneries of Jaeren (the Plain). A must trip if you're visiting Stavanger.

How long should I plan for the North Sea road when driving from Kristiansand? Should we stay overnight along the way?
