About
... an extraordinary experience! In beautiful and dramatic Western Norway, at the foot of the Voeringsfoss waterfall and by the ascent of the Maaboedalen valley, lies the Norwegian Nature Centre in Øvre Eidfjord with its breathtaking but unobtrusive architecture. The purpose of the centre is to gather and distribute knowledge about Norwegian nature, climate and environment. We made it our task to bring about an intimate meeting of modern man and nature. The Norwegian Nature Centre is an experience centre for the whole family, featuring lively exhibitions, hands-on activities and visual effects. Today, the centre is one of the leading centres of its kind, featuring state-of-the-art technological effects and innovative teaching technologies. Our supervideograph is a modern 225-degrees panoramic cinema, built in cooperation with Ivo Caprino who also made the film "Fjords, Mountains and Waterfalls" which is shown here. Our exhibitions are available in 13 different languages.

    Nicely done nature center
There are three floors of exhibits on Norwegian wildlife, nature, and climate. The exhibits are interactive and well done. There is a 20 minute panoramic film that simulates a helicopter ride above the fjord. There's a restaurant/gift shop across the street that has resident goats on its sod roof.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your visit to the Norwegian Nature Centre!

    Just go for the movie
Wow. We went on a misty miserable day. But this place brightened me up. The movie that they show on this huge semi circle screen was phenomenal!! It’s a beautiful must see… the landscape, the waterfalls. Etc all shown at breakneck speed and so closeup- you felt you could touch it.

Good for understanding local natural history
A small center that describes the natural history and ecology of the region. Exhibits are in Norwegian and English overall, but with many that have translations into less common languages. A pleasant restaurant and souvenir shop across the street as part of the complex.
Thank you very much for the posetive feedback Jeffrey. You are welcome back to our brand new panoramic film next season.

    Interseting and informative.
An interesting and informative collection of natural and geological information about the region. The movie they show on a huge semi circular screen is amazing, it immerses you in the views and wildlife of Norway. We visited as part of our cruise holiday.

    Eidfjord
On leaving the Ship find the tourist information and get a walking map. You can do two walks and they are very easy to do. One is via 2 graveyards and churches, be aware that you can miss the first church as it is a very modern building and you dont immediately realise it is a church until you see the cross at the top. The other walk leads to the most beautiful fjord. Well worth a walk. Allow 2 hours at least plus extra time if you want to stop at the fjord, we stayed there well over an hour as it was so beautiful. The best place on our cruise by far

    Beautiful
This excursion was part of a package with our cruise. Bus ride up to the mountain plateau was amazing. So much to see. When we got to the top the businesses there were closed as it was out of season but the view was worth the trip. Snow as far as we could see. Sadly no reindeer. The bus turned and took us back down to the nature centre. Here we were taken in to watch a 10 minute film of a helicopter ride through the fijord and up to where we had visited. This was on 5 screens and at times felt like we were on the ride ourselves. After this we were free to walk around the centre which has lots of info on the local wildlife (including several stuffed reindeer). Directly opposite was the cafe which was expensive but again to be expected in Norway. But the coffee and cake was lovely. The souvenir shop here was lovely. A great range of items.

    Disappointed
This is a beautiful area. We came on a cruise ship and were awed by the beauty surrounding us. I would have liked to have learned a great deal more about the geology, flora and fauna of Eidfjord, but this nature center fell short. There was a movie taken from a helicopter showing the fjords, waterfalls and such, but I had my eyes closed for a bit of it since I have a fear of heights. Fortunately, the music cued me as to when to shut my eyes. I think someone who was motion sensitive might have a problem as well. The exhibits were so-so and I spent most of my time walking around outside laughing at the goats on the roof of the gift shop and admiring the great beauty around me.

    Nature center = tourist trap
Just like many of the posts here I was very underwhelmed with this place. It now costs even more so adult entrance fee is 160 nkk. The 20 min panoramic video is mediocre at best in 2018. It would have been amazing in the late 1980s. The exhibits were stuffed animals and reminded me of the local science museum you attend as a kid. The “aquarium” is a large fish tank with regular fish. Souvenir shop is large with your usual keychains and shot glasses. Only saving grace here is the architecture of the center and the beautiful mountains outside the center. Unless you are going as part of a group from a cruise, I would not advise you to spend the 160 nkk here.

Came to see what this is all about
The Natursenter has a 3 Floor exhibiton. It was interesting to see all the Species of Animals which are living around here. In the Basement they have several Aquarien where the selection of local Trouts and Salmons are visible. Very Family friendly and good to visit. They even have a Cinema with 5 Monitors where you can watch a Helicopter flight, which is way nicer then spending lots of Money for the actual ride. Highly recomended

Great film of the Fjords and amazing restaurant.
This visit was included in our Norway in a nutshell Hardanger Fjord tour. Time was a bit too short as we squeezed in lunch as well. The film on five screens is a must see, taken from a helicopter with amazing views of the fjord. We did not have much time to spend in the Nature center itself, but the restaurant served great food, including an amazing fish soup.

Very informative. The video alone is worth the admission price. ($20 US). However, would be too expensive for a large group or family.

As part of a group tour of Eidfjord, we spent a couple of hours here. Excellent setup, with good geological history, climate, animals, nature. Walk-through was nicely arranged. Excellent for families. The shop/restaurant across the street has great buys on Norwegian outer wear.

This senter feels very out of date - the exhibition of animals deals with all the kinds of animals in Hardangervidda - and the 5 screen film must be nearly 30 years old.
