Peskatun do the best Northern Lights tours, they are close, friendly and they care that each of the attendees have a unique experience, not giving up and searching for the best places to see the Northern Lights. Sometimes is close to their camp, and Trond can dig a bench into the snow, make some fire and explain Sami stories, other times Ellinor drives through snow storms 100km and gets you to the only clear sky spot in Finnmark so you can see the Lights! They also share with you all the gorgeous pictures (not only one!) and you can see\buy their slate souvenirs, 100% handmade (they even let me make my own slate souvenir with their tools!) Thank you very much, Ellinor and Trond!! :)

I booked a Northern lights tour during my stay in Alta and Ellinor was my guide. Originally slim chances to catch the aurora but thanks to Ellinor not giving up, I was able to catch the lights. Ellinor also provided a wealth of information on both the science behind the northern lights as well as plenty of history about Finmark and Norway as a whole. I honestly had a fantastic time and could not recommend enough!

Thank you Peskatun Team, in particular Mr.Trond, for making our second trip to Norway, the most magical one. My family totally enjoyed your company during the entire programme with the warm clothing and snacks provided. Also, thanks for helping my wife with the camera settings to enable her to capture the fascinating moment - the perfect picture of the Aurora. The time we spent under the beautiful night sky filled with stars and the Northern light was awesome and breathtaking. Your enthusiasm and attentiveness has perfected our Aurora experience. We will definitely recommend this to our family members and close friends. Thank you

We were on the Sapphire Princess specifically as it was cruising when the Northern Lights were most likely to be seen. We had an overnight stay in Alta, our departure on the second day was around midnight ... so maximum opportunity to see the lights. LIke Vstew1012 wrote in their review dated 2nd Nov 2019, we too booked independently for a seat in a mini van. We went ashore to "suss out" where the pick up place was because it wasn't at the pier. The place I went to where the pick up was had never heard of this tour company so the lady phoned the tour company for me. It was then I learned there was a new pick up place at the Petrol Station ... I did not receive an email for this change and I know others didn't either - the rep sent the email again. I took the opportunity to ask about the probability of seeing the Lights - after all, that's what the whole purpose of this excursion was all about. Granted, this is a natural phenomenon but it had been snowing and locals know the weather conditions better than me. I was told by the company rep - "the lights will be strong tonight". When asked about the probability of seeing them (given the weather conditions, ie, cloudy, snowing) the rep would not provide any other information. Like Vstew1012, we waited at the Petrol station for our 6:30pm (?) pick up and chaos ensued about who was on which bus etc. We were driven in town where we told to get off the van to pay for the tour / get fitted out for boots/ clothes. It was chaotic inside their "shop", so much so I heard another fellow traveller describe it as a "cluster". I was sent back to the van - no payment made and some time later, someone came on our van and said we had to pay now. Given this organisation has been around for some time, there is no excuse for such chaos. We eventually set off around 8pm. We arrived at our first stop where 4 minivans converged and the drivers / guides (for those vans who had guides) alighted, discussed the skies etc which were clouded over and it was snowing. They decided we would drive for another 30 minutes - so off we went. We pulled up at the next stop and the skies were still clouded over. light snow. One van took off straight away. Our van remained there while the guide spoke to us and offered a coffee. Someone asked about bathroom facilities - there were none and we were told to just "go outside", ie, women could squat on the icy ground !! No thanks !!! No one had coffee lest they needed a toilet break and we were offered a choc chip biscuit (cookie) from a packet. We must have spent the best part of 30 mins here. The guide offered another opportunity to see the lights if we drive for another 30 mins - which of course we agreed to do. The bottom line, still cloudy and snowing so no lights at all - only street lights. The van was turned around to head back to Alta. I fell asleep only to be woken by sudden breaking and a couple of thuds. The van ran over a dog. The van continued on and a few minutes later, pulled over to check for damage ... I was very surprised they didn't check on the dog or see if there was identification on it to contact the owners. A little while later, the van stopped again to clear ice off the windows - the wipers had frozen to the screen. We were dropped off at the pier just after midnight - tired, disappointed and felt thoroughly cheated that they knew the weather conditions weren't right for sighting and should have been upfront and told us from the outset. Instead at the pier we were told they would definitely be able to be seen the next night. There was no offer to take us out the following night at a discounted rate - or any rate for that matter - and no offer to discount the tour because the lights were not seen nor did we get what we were told we would get in terms of amenities - "The Northern Lights Safari includes transportation, guide, free lending of thermal clothing and shoes, and also free lending of tripods. Hot beverages, light soup with bread and snacks will be served during the safari". Although the company states on it's website it cannot guarantee seeing the Northern Lights, in my opinion it does have an obligation to be truthful about the weather conditions when asked. The following day I heard from others on board the ship that on our first day in Alta, others had asked locals about seeing the lights on that night and were told there was "no chance". Yet I asked that same question to this company's rep and was told "the lights will be strong tonight". I talked to at least one other couple who like us, booked this tour, and they told me they had written to the company asking for a refund. Later in the cruise, I asked had they heard anything and they said they had a response from the tour company stating they were "looking into it". Funny thing is the person who signed that letter was the "guide" on our van so you'd think he would know what happened that night !! I also found out the day after this fateful tour that other tour companies in Alta gave a 30% fare reduction to passengers because the lights were not seen .. mind you, they had proper toilet facilities, fires, snacks and drinks where as for the same amount of money, around $AUD 500 for two of us - we had a drive to nowhere and one biscuit from a packet and a dead dog.
