We had been recommended this by friends as a great experience for foreigners and Finns alike. We did the English tour which was pitched well for our kids (9-12 years) and everyone (including grandma) loved the 15 minutes of eat as much as you’d like part at the end! The shop is also very reasonably priced!

If you're like me and have a sweet tooth then you will probably arrive home from your holiday with a suitcase full of edible souveneirs. And if you come to Finland then the likelihood is that somewhere in your stash will be a bar of Fazer Blue chocolate, a Geisha bar or Dumle. But how great would it be to actually watch while your treats are made, eat as much of them you like without paying and then buy your take home stash at a vastly reduced price? Well, now you can! The Cloetta Fazer factory in Vantaa is open for free, yes FREE tours! I was lucky enough to go as part of my language course here in Finland and it was probably the best hour and a half of my life. (Sorry to my darling man, but unfortunately you cannot compete with the chocolate:) On arrival you will be greeted by a friendly tour guide who will then take you for a walk around the entire factory showing you the chocolate production process and explaining the history of the company. This is all very interesting of course but what we really want is the free goodies right? You will not be disappointed on that score because set up in the factory are big tasting stations where full sized bars of all the Fazer range of sweeties and chocolate are on offer for you to try. You may eat as much as you like but the rule is you can't take it with you so I suggest doing as I did. Stand there as long as possible stubbornly refusing to move while stuffing your face with everything you can lay your hands to. I can assure you from experience that the gastrointestinal assault that follows is well worth it:) At the end of your tour you will be given a free goodie bag (mine contained: A loaf of the newest Fazer rye bread, full sized bars of Geisha, Fazer Blue, Fazerina, a bag of some boiled type sweets and some chocolate covered fruit and nuts....very generous). On the way out there is also a large factory shop where you can stock up for later and the prices here are much lower than in the shops. The factory itself is quite far out of Helsinki but if you take the train to Tikkurila from the main railway station and then the 61 bus towards Vaarala it's quite easy to find. (Or you could just go to Tikkurila and then take a taxi). All in all it's something well worth seeing and particularly great if you have children. A chocolate lovers paradise!

This was a big disappointment to us. We knew, because we could not call in advance, that getting on a tour might not be possible. We did expect, though, to be able to get a few chocolates for the trip home. We had a car and we drove there without any problems. Problems began after we got there. When we asked about tours, we were told there were none this month. So I started shopping in the very large store with several customers and great prices. When my husband asked about ingredients in an item, he was told, "You can't buy anything here." So, no tour, no taste, no candy.

As much as we love Fazer's chocolate and we appreciate very much sustainable and fair trade policy of the company, we did not enjoy guided tour at the visitor center and we think it is not worth paying that much money. We were disappointed with the tour - it is maybe fun for children or if you know absolutely nothing about food production. There is a green house presenting plants such as cacao tree, vanilla, cinnamon, banana, etc, used by Fazer for production of their confectionery. Rest of the tour is just showing old chocolate molds, portraits of employees, a movie about a young man who visited chocolate factory for the first time in his life and impressions on his face, exhibition where you can see and sniff raw materials used at Fazer's factory, such as sugar and grains... Our group spent some 5 min guessing how many eggs were used to compose Easter bunny... In the end you have 10 min to eat as much chocolate as you want. You also get a "gift" package with oat bread, Domino cakes, milk chocolate, mix of jellies and xylitol candies. Eventhough the guide was very well prepared and knew everything about Fazer and their products, and staff was very nice, however in our opinion it is better to go to the shop yourself and spend that 15€/ ticket on what you like instead. Do not expect entering the Fazer factory and seeing production line on this tour.

When you do a tour in a company your expectation are at least see something that you do not see at home, shop, streets, internet... and in the case of a chocolate company you want to smell the adorable chocolate, see the factory, the production, have some nice experience.
In the Fazer tour you will not have anything of these.
At first you will see video from youtube with a presentation of the company, raw materials and qualities of their products. PS: The guide is exceptional (and sweet, that could not be otherwise: -) )
Short tour along quite ugly stands with their product, two small and old machines for the chocolate (really nothing of special), a plastic tree of cocoa and the final step, all the chocolate that you can eat (you will not eat more than 2.50e of chocolate!).
In the end, free present in a bag with some candies, chocolate and bread.
There is not tour in the production because they want to keep a high level of hygiene, I understand, but a company that earn millions of euro per month can build a isolated corridor with transparent panels along the production or let you try some raw chocolate experience, or at least, see the warehouse...
Inevitable final tour in the shop where you will spend tons of money.
Briefly: you have spent money for reach Vantaa from Helsinki (5€+5€), you have eaten candies and chocolate that you can find in all the shop, you have bought some candies and chocolate for souvenir (that you can find in any shop)... but you have missed a really chocolate experience and you have wasted time.
PS: it is a not a tour for gluten free intolerance

We enjoyed our guided tour in this center on 8 Dec 2019. It is located about 25 minutes driving from downtown Helsinki. Quite fun and interesting, especially for kids. We booked our tickets online in advance for English tour. The center has a nice cafe and shop too. The staffs are friendly. You can try as much as sweets/chocolates during the guided tour and will be given a goodie bag when leaving too. All in all, we were glad that we spent 1 hour in the centre. The staff also helped us to book a taxi when we were ready to leave.

It was a rainy day and what better than to visit the Fazer Visitor Centre. Suitable for all ages with lots of fun stuff to do for children on eating healthily. Short tour round, then a video on the history of how they came to be and Karl Fazer. Not just about chocolate but about how they make other stuff in an organic way.
Then the best bit on a rainy day - as much chocolate as you want to eat - you can't take it with you but whilst you are there you can eat as much as you want - liquorice as well.
Then into the factory shop where the prices are literally factory prices and then we were given a goodie bag to take away.
Excellent chocolate too...
