The church is of the main road to Potes, located in a beautiful spot, and it’s a charming mix of pre-Romanesque and Mozarabic art, and Baroque country sacral art. It’s two euros and you cannot take pictures inside, just make sure you don’t arrive during their siesta between 130 and 4pm. The tours are in Spanish but there’s also an English handout.

Wow. It claims to be the oldest pre-Romanesque monument in Cantabria. It's an amazing old church with moorish style arches, which is curious, because the Moors never reached this far themselves. The tour is only in Spanish, but they have placards to hand out in English. It's a very small, country attraction and you have to wait outside for the next tour to begin, but a great little find if you're in the Picos de Europa.

To visit this lovely very early Christian church (Xth century) takes only a 1 km detour from the main route to Potes/Fuente De. It has mozarabic elements inside and out, and is unique as such in this Northern part of Spain. For a small fee you can visit the interior, which is wonderful. But it is frustrating that it is not allowed to take pictures (of course without flash): why is that?!
The free standing bell tower is of later age, as well as a small cemetry. Next to the church is century old olive tree, possibly dating back to the origins of the church. When walking around the church, unfortunately you notice a lot of litter, that requires cleaning up. Ample parking space. Suggested visiting time: 30 minutes.

Beautiful little church in an incredible area. One of the most ancienne churches in Spain. The guide is from the village and she has plenty of stories to share!

An extraordinary beautiful church built in the 900's with Celtic and some moorish influences attributed to Christian craftsmen that fled the southern part of Spain that was under moorish rule. Only one of two of these type of Romanesque churches that remain in this part of Cantabria that abuts with Asturias.
The church is in great shape with loads of history. Tours were only conducted in Spanish and was worth the 1.5 Euro entrance fee.

This exceptional Mozarabic church is one of the most important remnants of this example of architecture in Europe. It is fabulous to visit but it would be reasonable to have a record of this. If the church were to produce its own photos or postcards that would be fine but to ban all photographs is nonsensical and completely ,frustrating.
If you visit the church for its carvings and architected tire, chick are stunning, you have to understand that you will have no record of your visit because of this shortsighted policy.
Instead of charging 2 Euros for entrance, ctheyvwould raise a lot more money for sustainability if they charged more and allowed tourists to make a record of their visit. Grrrr!
Most unimpressed.

Beautiful and ancient church in the middle of the countryside in the foothills of the Picos. Not to be missed if you are in the area. As with many attractions in this part of Spain it seems, you are not allowed to take pictures inside. Can't see any good reason why not and it is very frustrating but still a wonderful experience to see a building as old and as special as this.

This place is simply amazing, the altar, the sculptures, the pillars, even the smell tells you about amazing history of this place. You can't take photos, the ticket costs 1,5€, but you get the flyer telling about the church in many languages.

This is a lovely small church in a stunning area. We were given a booklet in English to take round with us and they have most other languages as well, somewhat of a rarity in Spain as many places seem to offer only Spanish text. It cost 2.5 Euro to look round for us it was worth it.

The church of Santa María de Lebeña is in the way between Potes and the coast in the Desfiladero de la Hermida, an amazing location and a thrilling driving. The church has some interesting Mozarabic elements in its construction providing a hint of the mix of styles and cultures that populated Spain during the Reconquista.
