  • Monastery of St. John the Baptist (Prodrom)
On the southern bank of the Arda River in the Veselchane district in the town of Kardzhali is a medieval monastery, St. John the Baptist (Prodrom). In 2000 the monastery opened its doors, after several decades of archaeological excavations. With the support and support of the patriotic inhabitants of the town of Kardzhali, for a few months, the monastery was well-tempered and made to perform worship of any rank.

    Too old or too new
A small church with newly plastered walls. The yard is well groomed, but everything is either too old or too new

Nicely reconstructed and refurbished, positioned like a fortress overseeing the Arda river. One of the must-sees in Kardzhali.

The foundation and lower parts of this church were found by incidence, after it had been buried for centuries. Now it is reconstructed completely and offers a beautiful and serene interior.
