Awesome museum to visit
Nov 2020 • Friends
We were going around town and expecting a small museum to visit. Once we reached the site we were surprised - huge and exciting building.

Three floors with hierarchical structure and great expositions. Especially the cultural and traditional crafts from the region.

We would consider those as a must visit if you are around.

Enjoy ♥️

the fee of the Council
Aug 2019
They have the stone altar from Perperikon alright, but the fact that the town council have decided to impose a fee of 15 or 18 lv for taking pictures is a bit disappointing. I wonder how much money they will collect this way and if it is worth it. Parts of the museum are under reconstruction still.

Unique Museum
Apr 2019 • Friends
The museum is located near the center of the town, near the exit to the town of Haskovo. The building was built in the early twenties of the twentieth century, according to a project by Prof. Arch. Pemberjanetz, a lecturer at the St. Petersburg Art Academy. Like most museum buildings in Bulgaria and the original one was created for another purpose. The idea was to house a madrasa (a Muslim spiritual school). Due to the different vicissitudes of fate, this is never the case, but the initial design of the building requires atypical, architectural solutions. The Moroccan arches and details reminiscent of the architecture of the Arab world dominate the façade. Due to its unique appearance, the building is declared a monument of culture of national importance.

A hidden gem
Sep 2018 • Family
I have passed many times through the town. Yet, have not had the idea to visit the museum, probably because of the prejudice that most of museums in BG are boring and lack taste. I was completely wrong. This museum is nothing else but excellent by all standards. First, the building is unique. Built at the begining of 20th century, to become religiuos school, it has unique architecture that is totally uncommon for BG museums. It just stands out of the rest showing the visitor the beuty of muslim architecture. The look outside can be compared to the romantic view of Taj Mahal.

Entering the museum you will find very well presented exhibitions about the ancient time, middle ages, religious art - christian orthodox icons, natural science part, consisting of beatoful natural stones and crystals, and enogtaphic part, that shows the life in the area.

Without doubt you will be amazed by the exposition. The pictures unfortunately werw not allowed. I could take just several sply because people forgot to tell me that fact and they appologized for that!

Hope that seing this small sample will inspire you to go there.

The price is just 5 leva or 2,5 euro, which is just ridiculously cheap.

Here is a list of things that I found attracted to there :

- petrified trees ...
- samples from the unique and amazing vila Armira
- samples from the gorgeous Perpericon ...
- things from 6000 BC
- beatiful etnographic part with rooms dedicated to milk production, shoes production etc.
- the parts showing the life in the town just after indepence 1912

Probably the best history museum in Bulgaria
Aug 2017 • Friends
The museum is a discovery by itself. Situated in an impressive old building with enormous exhibition of ancient and Thracian times artefacts, definitely worth a visit.
You can see the original stone altar from Perpericon and many other interesting old things.
Parking is free and close to the museum.
My advice is to visit the museum before you start your tourist visit of the region.
