If you want to hike, definitely suggests to take Little Bear's Trail (12km).
It has breath ranking views and scenery changes all the time. Trail is very clearly marked so you cannot get lost. Lot of stairs and variation in heights makes it little rough exercise but dont let it stop you. We had a 7 year old who managed to complete so basic fitness will do just fine.
If 12kms dont intrigue, try to walk about 2kms to Myllykoski, you get to see a really nice raft and two hanging bridges.

Easy to navigate with clear direction to which path to hike. It's suitable for all ages from children to the elderly even during the winter. Everything is very well maintained and the view is stunning. Bring enough light if you're planning to hike after the sunset during winter.

Visitor centre about 1 km from Kiutaköngäs rapids. An oasis of civilization on the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The rapids are just magnificent, in the middle of nowhere.

We have hiked in many locations the US, in particular Colorado and Oregon, Norway and Chile, and this was as nice a hike as any we have had.
The weather was perfect, which always helps, and the variety of lakes, river rapids, meadows, and forests was wonderful.
As a bonus we saw 5 small herds (4-7) of caribou on the drive too and from the Park.
We took the 8 km Könkään keino trail from the Visitor Center.stopped for lunch and many photo breaks, and this took maybe 4 hours.

well marked trail, beautiful views. Snowshoes are not needed, even when there is lots of snow - only the stairs can be difficult/slippery.

We hiked the karhunkierros in September 2017. At the visitor center we bought sausages, cheese and bread. Thank you for looking after us. We were also able to charge phones and had the option to resupply camping gas.

I did not expect much when I walked into this place. I was really suprised how extensive and lovely this place was.
Combining information centre with every possible permit and recreational services added with a wonderful interior decoration coupled with information about the local history, flora and fauna simply makes the combination an all encompassing perfect service/resting place. You can get all information, coffee, suveniers, books or simple idea of the local nature from this one place. I did also enjoy the architecture and interior design.
All in all I do highly recommend you visit this place if you need anything or are simply close by.

This entry should really be about the main attraction, the Oulanka Natural Park, rather than just the visitor centre. The park itself is big extending well beyond the centre and incredibly diverse in its natural beauty. The photographs available in the public domain are good evidence. But the people working at the centre are also very dedicated and helpful. Aside from the different marked tracks on the Karhunkierros trail, I would warmly recommend canoeing down the river from the centre as a full day trip to Jäkälämutka or just a half-day trip to Nurmisaari. The Oulanka river with its sloped and sandy banks is beautiful. It's not really white-rafting, but the bends and turns provide enough velocity and excitement for family members of all age. Ask for Peter at the café, guide extraordinaire and a man who really loves his river. On hot summer days like this year the mosquitoes and horseflies may be a bit too much for some even if you're well equipped with repellent. But a small price to pay, if you ask me.

Great day hike with my family! The scenery is amazing and you could stop at every corner to take some amazing photos! Really loved it! The little best round is done is around 4 hours and really worth it!

Is there any way to get from here to Juuma? We are planning to do a section of karhunkierros and this looks to be the best section. But apparently the karhunkierros bus does not stop here.
