A gentle climb to peace and tranquility
Sep 2019
Whether your starting point is East Runton or West Runton or Incleboro Fields Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, its a fairly gentle climb to the peace and tranquility at the top of Incleboro Hill. Once there, you are surrounded by vast, open skies and you can just loose yourself in nature. The quiet, apart from birdsong, is overwhelming. One of the best times to ascend is when the sun is setting.

Lovely day out, beautiful gardens, reserve and excellent Cafe
Sep 2019
What a lovely place to visit, we spent hours here wondering round the gardens, looking at all the different plants which the birds and butterflies were enjoying. You can walk out to the reserve, follow the river and walk through the fields. We watched a Kestrel and lots of dragon flies enjoying the sun. It was £4.50 an adult but well worth it and the cafe had amazing home made food and cakes, which we enjoyed with a cuppa after our walk. There is also a shop and garden centre to look around, with help about which plants to plant where and which ones are good for insects or butterflies, near ponds, etc.

Inspiring

The layout of the gardens is pretty informal - it looks slightly ramshackle and untended (which it obviously isn't) but that's entirely the point of a garden devoted to supporting wildlife. The other facilities are clean and well presented. As you go round, information boards give details about each area including how it is created and maintained, and how it is used by animals and insects. We spent a thoroughly absorbing and informative couple of hours wandering round with our dog. At home we try to garden with nature in mind but have learned so much from our visit here about how we can quite easily do more. From my point of view as someone interested in supporting wildlife, it's a gem.

Close to Nature
Aug 2019
Natural Surroundings is an tranquil oasis where you can immerse yourself in nature. We had a lovely walk through different gardens and meadows and enjoyed sitting by the river Glaven watching dragonflies. At £4.50 each, we thought this was good value. There is a little cafe where we enjoyed coffee and homemade cake.

Visited midweek for coffee and cake. Great surroundings. Poor service let it down. Bit overpriced too for what was on offer. Not sure I would go back.

Not easiest to find! Look for brown sign for wildflowers.Follow a very long wall of Estate then drive through metal gates.

Interesting visit

Turning off the Blakeney road from Holt into the combined entrance for this attraction and for Bayfield Hall (to be visited next), this delightful nursery/cafe and attraction is worth a look-see.

You travel down the drive, with huge Gunnera leaves either side of you - making it appear that you are entering a different world! The nursery/cafe are tucked away at the end of the drive in a wooded glen and have a variety of things to see (and eat)

Peaceful, quirky and beautiful.

I visited today with my two children. I got the day of a friend’s birthday party wrong and needed to do some making up to my son.

We live in Holt and always drive past so I decided today was the day to take a look. I’m not sure what I was expecting - perhaps a little tea room and a few footpaths, however what you’re greeted with is much more. You enter via a lovely nursery and beautiful shop. Lots of lovely native wildflowers which I would love to take a look at another time when not on my own with the kids. The shop is well stocked with thoughtful gifts and worthwhile buys for children - bug examination kits and the like. Loose bird food is available to buy by weight here too. Loads of books on flowers and nature - in all a nicely thought out shop, not in the slightest bit toot-y.

The cakes were pleasant & looked homemade. Kids enjoyed theirs very much and the two cup pot of coffee was most welcome. The delicious smell of the cafe greets you from the carpark.

The tea room gardens are very sweet, but we paid the £4.50 (children go free) to explore the lovely trails and reserve. A very nice gentleman explained all of the different areas and gave us a map with directions and a sheet with flowers to find. We really enjoyed the adult size badger set and the fluffy badger made the boys laugh! Very sweet idea and unusual too. There are woven huts and hedgehog houses aplenty. The trails round the river are beautiful and peaceful and include a hide with blackboard for chalking up the day’s sightings. There’s a bee garden, reptile refuge, herb garden, butterfly garden and on and on. A lovely chalet with comfy chairs overlooking the gardens contains harvest mice in abundance. We would’ve stayed longer as my 5 year old was enraptured, however my 20 month old was getting worn out.

Definitely worth a visit, the Glaven Valley is Norfolk’s finest area without a doubt, and this unusual, natural place offers some gentle respite from the Chelsea tractors. It’s obvious somebody really cares about this place.
