This Large Forest Three times the size of my home country (Malta) is drenched in wild nature, with beautiful lakes, and wildlife. Most popular wildlife are the Pigs! (mostly Black or dark typical of the area) alot of cows, horses rabbits and deers too. In summer be careful near humid areas There are a few snakes. Nothing to be alarmed or afraid they are not poisonous. This Forest is perfect for Trekking and I encourage the avid trekker to try the "Dorsale" or crossing of the forest. its quite popular and people usually go in groups. When you have head enough of adventure I encourage you to try the Turismo Rurale Leanza (agritourism) the food it amazing!

Nothing much to add to than what has been already been written about the beauty of the park but would like to share some other insights on our recent experience. First of all we entered the park from the Cesaro side (south entrance by Maullazzo Lake) and there is no formal park entrance! Information is completely lacking with no maps available with regards the various tracks and associated difficulty levels. It could well be that there is an information/park wardens in another entrance but the north entrance was 2 hours drive from where we were! Getting anywhere close to the park without a four wheel drive is nearly impossible. We parked here 37°55'48.3"N 14°40'27.9"E and it was a 15min walk down a steepish hill to the lake - after a 4hr trek walking back up was a challenge at our age but there was no other option! I am attaching some details of the trek we took which in summary was from Lake Maullazzo direction Biviere Lake and back same route at a slow pace. We were very fortunate with the weather but it must have rained a fair bit before as the path was very muddy and a number of paths (maybe 4 or 5) where rather difficult to cross due to running water/ gushing streams which you could not cross with young children.

Pretty dry environment during summer months, lot of horseflies, which was really unpleasant. Be aware that trees are growing pretty high altitude in this climate. I was surprised to stand in the middle of thick forest at 1800 meters above the sea level. Also prepare to meet some wild pigs. They are friendly though.

Sicilia is not just palermo, tormina and catania, like most maltese thinks. Personally think that this part of siciliy is one of the best, and is a must that one pays a visit especially those who like to trek and like outdoor activities.

Place not to be missed. We usually visit here in December, and always find snow on the mountain peeks. We pass from Randazzo, Cesaro and continue all the way to Belpasso. We always tried to get to Lago Maulazzo but never managed due to the amount of snow we find, more than 2 meters high. If you are staying in Fiumefreddo it is very easy to reach.

Beautiful unadulterated natural forest surroundings with valleys, hills, mountains, streams, rivers ... the lot We were even lucky enough to find snow on the mountain peaks in spite of this being a warm Mediterranean climate.

We booked this tour from our hotel and after a bus picking us up we were taken to a small village up the hills and met our guide Antonio! What a man...he knows the place on his finger tips and was ready to answer all our questions and satisfy our needs. We highly recommend this tour especially with Antonio.

Lovely hairpin bends (fun with a motor bike:))- good road. Lots of scenery, trees and even some wild life. Will be cold and perhaps foggy.

A great place to visit with the orange tress in the forest, the lakes are very beautiful to visit and the waterfall is nice but small when we went.

We would like to visit Parco dei Nebrodi next weekend. Closest entrance for us is from Mistretta. Is there a route we can take by car to view the park from this entrance? Is it safe to visit if it rains? We would like to make the best of our afternoon there without getting lost. We can walk short walks (about 20-30mins at a time) due to toddler. Appreciate any guidance that can be provided. Alternatively if there are tours that we opt for from this entrance or close to it, we're open to tours too. Thank you

We want to drive from the northern coast down Ss289 to Ceasaro. Can anyone tell us the condition of this road in early October?
Written August 31, 2018
Usually the autumn rain starts beginning from second halves of october, but maybe this year will begin early... but no worries: in that period all roads of Sicily are free by snow, if is what you mean. And the obligation of the chains or winter tyres it begins from november 15th.
Enjoy your journey!

Is the Nebrodi Park good to visit with a small kid aged 3? Is it easy to go about or will there be a chance of getting lost?
Written August 6, 2018
Hello, it's possible to visit it with small kids but you have to choose the ideal attractions; I advise Catafurco Waterfalls like natural ones. It's just a little bit difficult find some of them but Google maps can help you.
If you choose to visit small towns of the park, you have to visit Randazzo, S.Marco D'Alunzio and Bronte.

Are there camping areas nearby please? (inside or outside the park)
Thanks :)
