Such an amazing experience. We had such a lovely tour group of a mixture of people from all over the world. And our tour guides were also very great, friendly and informative.

The boat ride was around 40mins, it was beautiful, great footage to capture. We stopped at the tourist point to learn some history about the dam, which was so interesting. Then got some pictures before heading to the smiley lakehouse

Overall this was such an unreal experience, I would definitely recommend anyone visiting near Khao sok to do this. My favourite day in Thailand

Chiao Lan Dam has beautiful scenery attract
and impress the tourists to come here unremitting. There are also many activities to do,
such as canoeing, cruising the Sam Klur mountain

On our recent trip to Khao Sok National Park, we decided to go to the very scenic Cheow Lan Lake but made the mistake to include an overnight stay. It would be good if the type of accomodation available would be in keeping with the serene environment. Ours was not and it spoiled the destination which is otherwise beautiful. We did a sunset and a sunrise cruise which were very pleasant and scenic. The rock formations add so much drama to the landscape!

Absolutely magical place. We drove from Surat Thani to the marina and hired a private boat for 2 hours. Prices were all set and clearly displayed so no need to haggle. 2 hours was plenty to see the beautiful rock formations and still have time for a quick swim in the water. Unmissable.

Cheow Lan Lake or Ratchaprapha Dam is one of the most interesting areas in Khao Sok. Boat tours to the lake can be done in a day. You would be taken to Cheow Lan Lake by aircon minivan. Later, a boat will take you around the lake and to your accommodation on the lake. It is highly recommended to do spend a night in floating raft houses or luxury tents on the lake.

Take a boat and go arround the dam is amazing experience. The boats if you do t want go with big groups are little expensive for just 2 or 3 hours. And you have to pay for go inside the national park too, so finally is expensive place for be in the middle of national park.

Scenic lake, but the costs for the boat trip + national park fee are just too high (compared to many other attractions with already high entrance fees when compared to what Thais have to pay.

We stayed two nights in a floating hotel on the lake. Fantastic setting, terrific food and very good service. All of the included excursions were fantastic. You must have a little bit of sea legs because the floating bungalows do move!

We did a full day lake excursion with guide with a group of 19 people in 2 vans

- The ride from the hotel area of the National park takes about one hour with a bathroom / store break on the way
- Long tail excursion (1hr) through the lake system with rock and mountain cliff formations getting more impressive progressively
- Lunch stop at a floating resort. Food was very good and portions impressive
- Kayaking
- Long tail boat to a hiking trail
- Our guide pointed out a lot of interesting things on our trek
- At end of the hiking trail, a bamboo boat ride (neat) across a small lake
- Trek up a steep set of stairs to a really impressive medium size cave where the stalactites sparkle
- Return to hotel via trek, long boat, then van

Hotel pickup 08:30 and arrive back at hotel around 18:15

Recommended to bring:
- Quick dry towel or regular towel
- Camera
- Bathing suit
- Hat for shade
- Mosquito repellant
- Sun screen
- Dry bag for camera (store stop does sell them)
- Sturdy sandals with straps or hiking shoes you don’t mind getting wet
- Socks!! At least medium length if you want to minimize the chance of getting a leach on you

Safety:
- The long tail boats are fully equipped with life vests which you must wear
- For the bamboo boat ride across the very small lake to the cave, there was only one life vest per boat
- For most of the large lake system, there was zero cell phone service for the mainline carrier I was using and I didn’t see anyone else able to use phones. Then on the longtail boats I didn’t see the crew have any portable radios, so I’m not sure how they communicate in an emergency situation

We've been going here for years and it was the most beautiful, unspoiled paradise. Sadly it is now overrun by the Chinese Tourist Machine. You won't find the authentic peace and beauty unless you can avoid 90% of the offers and tours and do it yourself, go beyond the short day trips that contain hundreds and hundreds of Chinese and travel beyond their reach. It is still a beautiful place but we won't go there again.
