The setting of Wat Pha Prao is very pleasant, with views out over the Sirindhorn Reservoir and good sunset views, depending on the weather. The Lao-style temple is also very pleasing to the eyes. But the real attraction begins as darkness sets in and the large Tree of Life on one end of the temple comes alive as the luminous fluorescent paint on the tree and stones surrounding the temple begin to glow. Quite magical and serene (except if there are too many loud picture-taking tourists around).

This is a unique Buddhist Temple in a glorious high location overlooking the border between Thailand and Laos. I went there with my family and it was a unique experience for me - never having been inside a Buddhist Temple before. Again respect for Buddha is essential when visiting these holy sites and taking your shoes 👞 off before entering is part of that respect. The floors are all tiled, smooth and very clean so there is nothing to worry about even going bare footed.
The gold balls are very interesting made from mock gold leaf and it is customary to add a few leaves to each ball as well as lightly strike the big gong too. Like so many Thais- I myself prayed for good luck, good health, healing and prosperity for our loved ones and friends.
This is not as elaborate or ornate a Temple as those 50 miles away in Ubon as it is basically a wooden structure- but that doesn't matter as it certainly has a holy aura about it. At night they light it up and it is quite spectacular to see. You can easily see Laos from here across the trees and river beyond. A truly beautiful spot well worth a visit.

Got there 5 minutes before the sunset and wow, what a relaxing and mesmerizing experience. The sala with the Buddha glows an eerie red color and once the sun has set and it is dark, the fluorescent paintings in the back of the sala give it a fun and eerie feeling. Well worth the 1.5 hours driving from Ubon Ratchatani to see it.

This is one of the most amazing temples I have seen so far. Breath taking views of the mountains looking towards Lao. The table area outside of the temple are just amazing. If you are in ubon area this is a must see. Please look at the pictures I posted on this.

Also known as Wat Sirindhorn Wararam, Stunningly decorated monument and place of worship located on the top of a hill. Besides the beauty of the shrine you are also being rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over the Sirindhorn Lake and the mountains over the Laotian border on the other side.
After sunset it gets lit up with an amazing combination of blue and golden colors. I would defifinitively come back here again.

This is indeed a magic place. Not only for the beautiful temple or the glowing part. It’s also for the surrounding areas. You should be some time before sunset to have time to explore during daytime. Then after sunset magic will happens...

I have ever been there both at daytime and nighttime. To get photos at daytime you will get the original colors of the Wat(temple) and at nighttime, you will get the more fantastic lights for photos

Free to visit.
Try to reach before sunset for a great view.
Make your way to the back of the temple to see the night glow.
Very good visit but can be busy so be ready for that.

We watched the sunset. The temple is very beautiful and we liked watching the sun set over the lake. After dark, the fluorescent stones were amazing and unforgettable.
