Rock climding
Feb 2020
There is a choice of walking to the boulders or taking a ride in a pick up which will cost 200 THB for a round trip.

There is some climbing involved so be careful. Once at the rocks there are guilds for hire.

The famous formation are Mickey mouse which was easy to find, Heart and number 800.

Fascinating landscape
Jan 2020 • Couples
What you are looking at is actually the river bed of Mae Khong river, which fills in the month September. When the river withdraws the rock structures (Sam Phan bok = 3000 holes) become visible that have been formed already 110.000.000 years ago. It is a fascinating landscape and of course people see all sorts of significance in the shapes, meaning a Mickey Mouse hole, a heart, the number 800, the Grand Canyon etc. See what you want to see and enjoy he unusual shapes.
There is no entrance fee. Although it is walkable I would recommend taking a pick-up (200 baht for the whole car) and we were joined by a sweet 7-year old (!) guide who gave a very good explanation, albeit only in Thai. You can tip whatever you like, we gave 100 baht which was probably over-generous, but it is lovely to see this young enterprise.

Sam Phan Bok - a little known highlight of Eastern Thailand
Dec 2019
Sam Pan Bok (Thai: สามพันโบก) is known as the "Grand Canyon of Thailand" and is the biggest rock reef in the Mekong River region. Sam Phan Bok translates as 3,000 shallow lakes and is a fascinating sightseeing spot with countless photo opportunities also great for Drone pilots.

Dec 2019 • Friends
This place is really amazing and unbelievable. You must see it with your eyes if have a chance. Every spots are beautiful. Recommend to take the boat trip in early morning to see the sun rise. The cost of the boat is THB 1,000 per trip and there will be one local guide going with you. The guide will give you the information along the way and assist you to take a photo. The tripe take about 2.5 hours.

Always Amazing Everytime of the Day
Jan 2019
It was the most beautiful nature building in Ubon ratchthani, the best sunset point and it's worth early waking up. Or in the evening it's also nice to visit and the twilight is just like a dream.

Wonderful
Dec 2018 • Family
Went twice in December. It is a wonderful day out if you are in the area. The Rock formations are stunning but will not be accessable during the rainy season. Most tourists stay on the rocks on the right but it is worth hopping over to those on the left as there are less people, no other person when I was there. return taxi at baht 200. Guides are available, we gave then Baht 100. Food and drinks available at the car park on entry but did not partake. Soft drinks and coconuts down at the rocks. Less crowded during the week.

Geology wonder
Dec 2018 • Solo
It is the most beautiful place, the most magical place, playground for adventurous adults. It is difficult to describe this wonder - endless rocks, strange forms, numerous holes, ponds, lakes... go there and you will thank Mother nature.

Interesting visit
Nov 2017 • Solo
I visited the Sam Phan Bok site in early November. The Mekong was low enough to enable a nice walking (about 1h) through the different rock formation, many holes were visible. I gave a miss to the boat trip as I thought it wouldn't really add anything to see Mickey Mouse ears-like hole. It is right that the water levels goes even lower in the dry season and then the canyon-like feel is greater. I think this region of Thailand offers additional reasons to visit like the Pha Taem National Park and its view from the visiting centre and several waterfalls. All could be packed within a day if well planned, but possibly not if starting from Ubon.
