Highly recommend to come and see mural painting inside temples wall. Very detailed and very unique in the way the artist use to represent the story. From my tour guide experience this is one of the art you must see.

Very seldom that such a beautiful temple in a perfect surrounding and well loved by the local residences can be found. Wat Ban Nong Bua is such a temple. Located some distance from Nan toward the direction of Pua, this temple is hidden in the small town of Tha Wang Pha. The temple has a generous parking area in front of the temple. Before you enter the temple, you will hear local music being played by local musician to welcome you. The temple ground is well landscaped and maintain. The main temple wall has the similar paintings from the same era as Wat Ming Muang in Nan. Behind the temple, there is a small gift shop manned by locals that are anxious to meet visitors than simply to sell their merchandise. This is an excellent temple not to be missed.

This was a bit of a 'find', not just another traditional Thai temple but a very light and airy, indeed a happy temple. If I lived nearby I would certainly visit frequently, or at least whenever I felt stressed, and needed a bit of a pick-me-up. It doesn't have the grandeur of many Thai temples, even many small Thai temples, but does have a very special atmosphere and should connect more with the simplicity and realities of village life. From the side it looks fairly standard but from the front and as soon as you get inside, one can see that this is a quite different temple, especially with its extensive use of wood and large number of murals, many over 100 years old. The main building is surrounded by well manicured gardens with lovely colourful flower beds so take a few moments to admire those.
It is not easy to find as it is a few kilometres away from the main 1080 road, and about 40 kilometres north of Nan City, but is signposted and just follow the signs for the village of Ban Nong Bua. The village is not large so it is easy to spot the temple near one end of the village. At least in season, a small group of local musicians can be seen playing traditional Thai instruments under a tree just past the entrance arch.
There are some wooden huts just beyond the temple, near the monk's quarters, where one can see some traditional Thai Lue style (the Thai Lue were originally from southern China) tribal weavers at work – for which this village is particularly famous. If you are particularly interested in textiles there are also other weavers to see elsewhere in the village.
One can easily see all there is to see in under an hour but if possible spend a bit more time to just relax and soak in the atmosphere.

We drove up from Nan city to see this temple. The coloured wall murals and paper sketches/paintings in glass cabinet were interesting to see but other than that, this temple isn't anything spectacular. Its advertised as part of a village however its not actually in a village per se, there is one unoccupied Thai style house with few furniture and three women showing weaving techniques.

Ban Nong Bua ("Lotus Swamp Village") is about 43 kms drive north of the centre of Nan town. The road is good and the trip is a comfortable 40 minutes. Two reasons for visiting are the temple, which has some exquisite murals similar to those that can be found in Wat Phumin in Nan town, and the Thai Lue villagers who continue their traditional cloth-weaving handicraft to this day. The temple murals were painted by the Thai Lue people, who migrated into Thailand from the southern part of China several centuries ago. Some scholars believe that these murals pre-date those in Wat Phumin which are similar in style. Within the temple grounds, as well as in a few houses in the small village, can be found ladies working on their looms weaving their distinctively-patterned cloth. Outside the front of the temple is a large shed containing two longboats (albeit in a state of disrepair) similar to those used for the longboat racing competition held on the Nan River each year.

Located a few kilometers off the main highway from Nan city to Pua, this Wat attracts visitors because of its floor to ceiling murals that cover all four interior faces of the structure. They are quite similiar to the murals at Wat Phumin in Nan City, but the hundreds of human figures here seem lifeless in comparison to the artistry at Wat Phumin. If you only have time to see one of the two, skip this one.

I love this temple especially with the essence of local. Senior people who live nearby are gathering together here, like a small community, where they can proudly present their way of living. Their genuine and hospitality is real. I love people here.

Ban Nong Bua is the biggest homes of Tai Lue people (alternative spellings: Thai Lue, Lue) who are famous for their traditional tribal fabric with “Nam Lai” patterns, an art handed down through generations. The design has been improved during times but still retaining the original patterns. The native woven materials have now become a highly popular among tourists.

It is located on the way to Pua district, far away from Nan city around 30 km. and you have to observe the sign to temple. Drive about 5 km from the main road. Once you get in, you will hear the local music from the local elder people who always play to welcome tourist, you can donate fro them as well.
