Easy track, less people and beautiful view.
Dec 2019 • Couples
There were 4 stations to walk but the routes we did were station 101, 102 and 103. The station 104 is on the other side but we needed to leave town the same day so we didn’t visit.

The track is so easy even for non-fitness person like me. You can see cloud all over the surrounded mountains and once the sun came up, it’s sooooooo stunning! We decided to see sunrise at station 102 and kept walking to station 103 after sunrise. You will keep seeing very good view all the way up to the station 103.

If you already visited Phu Chi Fa, spend another night to visit Doi Pha Tang. Much less tourists, easy to walk and super beautiful views!

We rented a car from Chiang Rai and drove up to the visit Phu Chi Fah, Phu Chi Doen, Phu Chi Dao and also Doi Pha Tang. Make sure you are good with driving in different lanes and mountains road and sharp curves.

Views!
Dec 2019 • Solo
Several months ago I visited Phu Chi Fa and by-passed Doi Pha Tang, but after thinking it over decided to return to Pha Tang. My recommendation is this: if you are coming from Chiang Kham, head for Phu Chi Fa. If you are coming from Chiang Khong, head for Pha Tang. Views are similar. I was not here for sunrise, but at midday, thus temps were high and the views a bit hazy, but still awesome. From the parking lot, you can hike two different directions: north along a dirt path towards some gazebos you can see on the horizon (view only towards Thailand) or south past the food sellers up some stairs and to the ridge (looking towards Laos and Thailand). Choose the latter, to the south. It's an easier walk, and also you'll have better views. I did not eat here, so can not comment on the status of food vendors. Bathrooms were clean though.

Amazing countryside

I hired a nice new car from Chiang a Rai for 900thb to explore Doi Tung area. It was a fantastic drive. Just be ready for a lot of border patrols & immigration stops as you are close to the border.

Great family vacation
Oct 2018 • Family
We are family of 4, stayed first night at Phu Chi Fa Ban Oil and second night at Pha Tung Hill.

2 nights in this area were great with cool fresh air. Morning view points were fantastic both places but I prefer Pha Tang more than Phu Chi Fah because less crowded . Not so many foreigners because it is far and no public transport.

Great experience
Nov 2017
It was great to take the bus with our tents and spend the night in that awesome mountains.
We woke up very early to start the hiking in order to arrive for the sunrise.
It was a cloudy day, so we didn’t have the opportunity to see Laos from the top.
Anyway, the experience was so cool. Worth the cold I suffered during the night!

Most beautiful site I've seen.

Sun rise over the mountains and clouds was such an amazing view to see!
It takes about 2 hours to get here from Chiang Rai, which is a beautiful scenic drive! We hired a clutch motorbike and drove ourselves. Do not take an automatic moped, the roads are ridiculously too steep!!!
We stayed in Pha Tang Resort, 4 minutes away! so we didn't have to wake up too early.
From the car park you walk up some stairs about 5 minutes to the top of the mountain, its steep but not hard.

Absolutely Brilliant Sunrise 🌅
Dec 2015 • Friends
We woke up pretty early around 4.30 am. And take a walk from our camp to the top its take us 30-45 min to walk from the camp. But it worth it because we can see the Sunrise in the other side of the horizon as eyes can see I think this is absolutely brilliant views for my eyes.

Cool weather, best to have own transport for ease of travel
Dec 2015 • Family
We went up on public transport. Took bus to Wiang Kean from Chiang Rai old terminal at 10.30ish. Alight at police post junction, waited for blue songtaew going up. We shared the songtaew with many school kids (halfway up) & reached the top at 5.30pm, close to sunset.
Most rooms during peak season start at THB1,000 (off peak THB300) and I managed to get a THB600 room without view.
Going up to viewing point 2 (Pha Bong, 2km away) is best done with own transport/ rented motorcycle. As I cannot ride manual m/bike, we hitched a ride up the steep slopes. View depends on luck; it was foggy when we go, so no sea of clouds. When we went up again next day evening, we managed to see Mekong river, Laos and caught a sunset before walking down.
Visited local orphanage sponsored by a Taiwanese and a chinese night school too. Pork knuckle is a must try, and different restaurants do it slightly differently.

Sea of clouds that cross the border
Apr 2015 • Friends
Location Description:
Doi Pha Tang is on the border of Thailand and Laos.
If you start from Chiang Rai city, you should go to bus terminal 1( The old bus terminal) first, then take bus to Wiang Kaen( The first bus departs at 09:30 daily). It will take you 3 hours to be Wiang Kaen.

Once you arrive Wiang Kaen, get off at the police station at a T junction, and there are blue local bus( Called "Song Tiao") on the right-hand side of police station, the driver will take you to Doi Pha Tang.

Recommendation:
Doi Pha Tang is higher than nearby area, thus it's a nice place to watch sea of clcouds. It will take you 6-7 hours from Chiang Rai to Doi Pha Tang,if you go in the morning from Chiang Rai city, you will arrive Doi Pha Tang around 4-5 P.M. you can easily find many local hotels and restaurants there, especially Chinese restaurants.

The sun rise here is beautiful with sea of clouds, if you want to enjoy it, you may stay here one night, and wake up at 5 A.M.(In summer), then drive a motorcycle to the viewpoint . The viewpoint for sea of clouds is 5 minute from the town, and there is only one road so you won't miss it.

Besides sea of clouds, Coffee is produced at Pha Tang and it worth a taste.
