In-depth local history

Very well maintained museum. Excellent local history on a variety of topics.

Note description cards are in Dutch/French only. English audio-guides are included with the entrance fee and there are English pamphlets in each room of the museum.

Toilets and a few items for sale available inside the museum.

Entrance fee is nominal. Easy parking at the museum and on nearby streets for free.

Excellent museum
Sep 2019
If you want to know what life in the Meuse Valley was like for the past couple thousand years, this is the place--with objects, dioramas, placards, maps, the whole nine yards. Deceptively simple. You learn why castles were built the way they were, how the Meuse behaves during certain times, why the slopes on which villages were sited had everything to do with whether their residents succeeded in feeding themselves. Small, but a lot in it.

Look at it while looking around, visit the village, in the church
Sep 2019
The museum is simple, but worth a visit as it tells the history of the region and life there. It offer practical information on simple daily things. The museum has to be considered together with its surroundings: the village, the river, the church, the castle, the city of Dinant.
Do not hesitate to talk to staff - they know so much more than what can be seen at first sight.
The church of the village has a wonderful altar-place.
We walked from Dinant to Bouvignes. It is a nice 30' walk. You can follow the river in Dinant, then cross at the lock, follow the river a bit more (the church tower - as well as the Castle de Crevecoeur - are visible from a distance - just go in that direction).
Entry is 4 Euro.

The usual stuff
Apr 2017 • Solo
This museum is much like most other archeology museums, with weaponry, coins, pots, and so on. Roughly from Merovingian times to the 16th century. Also a Merovingian sarcophagus. All the Merovingian stuff is a plus-point to me. And there were a few treasury items. I got annoyed by the lady at the counter, who took 20 minutes to deal with a group of 6 tourists before me. Then when I thought I'd simply pay to get in, she somehow thought that I wanted to contribute to payment for the group ahead of me. So that's a minus point.

Lovely museum, lots to do
Aug 2016 • Family
A very nice museum in a lovely building. There was lots to do and English translations in every room. There was a good exhibition on at the time which included dressing up, which my 14-year-old daughter Hannah particularly enjoyed. We had lots of fun.

Great museum - a practical introduction to life in the middle ages

Located off the beaten rack. along the river Meuse, near the small city off Dinant, this museum is worth a trip. For the history it tells, as well as the small village it is in
