If you love cheese this is a must. Very educational and you just enjoy to learn where cheese actually comes from and what it all takes to make it (real cheese, not some factory processed substitutes) Your senses, tasting, smelling and looking are put to a test. The presentation focuses on the unique "tete de moines" Unbelievable this less known cheese is exported all over the world. Culinary handy-craft of its finest.
Sure there are other, bigger places in Switzerland about cheese, yet here you find a quiet setting, a place where dreams still have room and love truly passes through your taste buds and not just stomach as the saying goes.
The Swiss for sure know how to promote their excellent produce.
Nearby old convent is worth to look at but other than an exhibition on its history not much to see as compound is now used as sort of a clinic.

Interesting tour of cheese making from start to finish. Workers conduct the tours depending on their language proficiencies. I've seen them take singles, but this is best for small groups. The tastings are fun. And, of course, you can buy in the shop.

We did like the paid museum, wich was nice and interactive, but were very disappointed that you pay a high Price for the cheese tasting.

Mainly a good family museum as the whole process of cheese making is explained as well as the way of slicing the cheese. After the tour, a film is showed as a summary of the things you have just seen. While touring through the museum, your nose is put to the test of smelling herbs, grass and various other goodies. Finish it all of with a plate of cheeses outside, looking at the stables or the Alpenweide.

The Museum of the Maison de la Tête de Moine is a great place for kids of all ages to discover the art of making cheese. A museum where you feel welcome and are allowed to touch and smell (!) everything. The iPads that accompany every visit are an extra bonus. If your a group of 10+ book a tour and tasting too. The shop offers a wide variety of local products and their own cheese of course!

This is THE place to learn about the history of this very special cheese. iPads are available to assist those wishing to know more and those who have difficulty with French and German labelling. Check on the website for information on tours.

Oh la la how I love this fromagerie. Their Tête de Moine is just excellent, I personally prefer the stronger version, accompanied with the local beer you will remember this delicacies for a long time...and probably you will come back.
