Had a great time in Rimetea and admired the beautiful landscape. The village looks great this time of the year. Worth stopping by. You can take many amazing pictures as well.

Everybody knows that Rimetea is a UNESCO site and I am sure many where as impressed as we were today by the beautiful landscape and kind people we found in this village. The accommodation is cheap here (only one restaurant though), few souvenir shops, a museum and many places suitable for hiking. We visited the village with our 14 months old twins in a stroller and it wasn’t very difficult to move around on the streets. As per a local, from the village center until the top of the cliff, one average person (not too sporty) needs roughly 2 hours by foot. Next time for us :)

We visited here as a side trip on our drive to Cluj. The road is patchy in places but very relaxing to drive and the village itself is a charm. The great rock backdrop provides a perfect foil for the architecture of the village. There are several walking tours you can do, the signs are in English as well as other languages. Of particular enjoyment was the narrow pathway between houses on the southern side of the centre - check for it on your local map app. Spend an hour or so soaking up the atmosphere and thinking of a simpler time in Romania's past.

The Székelykő rock might look intimidating but even a group with not much hiking experience can climb and go on the top. The view is astonishing - don't forget your camera. It is a real refreshing activity, we have it every year when visiting Torockó / Rimetea.

The trail starts behind the church. The mountain itself is beautiful and also the view as you climb up.
If you sleep in the area, turda gorge is another beautiful place

Rimetea - a settlement where the sun raises two times, it's situated at the feets of the Piatra Secuiului Peak (1171 m). The cliff's name comes from the fact that in the XIII century the szeklers saved the village from the assault of the Tartar.
Rimetea (Hungarian: Torocko) is a commune located in Alba County, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Colțești (Torockószentgyörgy; Sankt Georgen) and Rimetea. A former mining town, today it is known as the location of the Piatra Secuiului (Hungarian: Székelykő, "Rock of the Szeklers") mountain and as a Székely cultural center.
Rimetea is unique. During the antiquity and middle ages, it was the center of iron mining for the region. In the 14th century, settled here colonists from Austria and Germany, to work in the iron mines. Now it is a quiet village resting on the foot of the impressive Piatra Secuiului Mountain .
Secuiului Rock is climbed by many tourists, for paragliding or to see the remains of Colţea fortress.

I really enjoy coming back here since I was a child. The village is lovely too with friendly people that say hi to everyone even if they don’t know them. They keep their traditions and customs. The area is beautiful and the view from the top is amazing. Fresh air, spring waters, local food and nature combined for everyone to enjoy. An unforgettable place that makes you come back over and over again.

This mountain is the place where I come to recharge. I love it since I was a kid.
It needs some 2h to go up, but it worth the effort. Every time.
My dutch friends calls it the "Sleeping Man". Because it looks like a sleeping giant.

Hi,
I would like to get more information about the hiking to the top of the mountain (what was described as a 1.5-2 hours track)
- Where can I find a map of the track ?
- Where is the starting point ?
- how cold is it (in mid September) on top ?
- Is there signs all the way and how can they be identified ?
- more tips if possible ?
thanks

Hello Jar.
It's around 4 - 5 hours. But if you sit down on the top to enjoy the view - it can be even more. 😉
